Mayo Fans Ask Kerry Supporters To Take Part In Tribute At Croke Park On Sunday

A GROUP of Mayo fans are trying to organise a minute’s applause tribute to a Mayo supporter who died last weekend and they are appealing for Kerry fans to take part.

‘Cáirde Mhaigheo London’ posted on Facebook that they are appealing to all fans to stand up and applaud Joseph Deacy in the 21st minute of Mayo v Kerry this Sunday in Croke Park.

Joseph Deacy, who lived in St Albans in England, was discovered with serious head injuries outside a house at Gortnasillagh, Swinford, Co Mayo on Saturday morning. He died on Sunday evening at Beaumont Hospital. He was on holidays visiting a friend at the time.

Following a post-mortem examination by the State Pathologist Professor Marie Cassidy, Gardai announced that they are treating the 21-year-old’s death as a homicide.

“Joe was a massive Mayo fan and unfortunately has been taking away from us all too soon,” reads the post on Facebook. “Although living in England his love for Mayo knew no bounds and regularly made trips over to support the green and red. Let’s show his family our support at such a tragic time.”
