MERCY Mounthawk Parents’ Council has launched a ‘Mega Raffle’ to kick off the fundraising for an Astro Turf pitch for the school.

The school believes the time is right to install an all-weather AstroTurf pitch so the students of Mounthawk can reap the benefits of being able to play regardless of what the weather brings.

It will be used for all sports and recreational activities, and will also be a welcome addition for new Leaving Certificate subjects like P.E.

“We are delighted with the community spirit shown by the many local businesses who have stepped up to support our efforts with some fabulous prizes for the Raffle,” said Angie Baily, Chairperson of the Parents’ Council.

The main prize is a holiday voucher from David Slattery in Slattery Travel. Also, for one lucky student, there is a full scholarship for Brú na Páirce Summer Course in French or Irish in Killarney.

There is a brand new, fully signed Kerry jersey sponsored by Connect Publications and many generous vouchers for Hennebery’s Sports sponsored by Hennebery’s and Connect Publications.

There are many other sponsors to whom the Parents Council are grateful for their generosity and support including: Ross Jewellers , Dan Fitzgerald, Shindig Boutique, Spa Seafoods, The Ashe Hotel, Mounthawk Allcare Pharmacy, Spar Caherslee.

“Our school has had a 20 year commitment to the development of a sports programme for Boys and girls,” said John O’Roarke, Principal, “and it is great in this 20th year to have an All-Ireland Girls championship, the Frewen Cup and the Kerry Boys’ and Girls’ Schools Championship Athletics shields. PE is a vital component of a well-rounded education and the installation of an Astro-turf facility will be the next step in our development.   Thanks to the Parents’ Council for their initiative in promoting fundraising for this new facility.  We are looking forward to welcoming all the families of our school community, as well as the past pupils of Mercy Mounthawk, to celebrate on May 22nd.”

Tickets, starting from €10, are available to families and staff through the Compass system in the school and there will also be tickets available on the day of the Garden Fete at the school.

The live draw will take place on Sunday, May 22 during the Garden Fete to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Mercy Mounthawk.
