A SOCCER match between the town’s two hospitals raised over €1,600 for the Oncology Unit at University Hospital Kerry.

Three weeks ago, the Bon Secours beat UHK in the Tommy Naughton Perpetual Cup in Cahermoneen.

Held in memory of Tommy who worked at the Bons until he died suddenly in 2014, this was the third time it was played and the men from the Strand Road hospital triumphed by 4-0 breaking UHK’s dominance since the Cup was first presented.

The money was collected from players and spectators at the game as well as a raffle for a signed Kerry jersey at the apres match fun in Linnane’s Bar on July 16. The cheque was presented to the hospital on Friday afternoon.

The match itself was played in good spirits but there was also a competitive side to it to gain bragging rights in the local derby. Jonathan Downey got a hat-trick for the Bons on the night with Brian Egan also netting.
