TWO students from Mercy Mounthawk will take part in the Munster Schools Debating Final next week.

Organised by the UCC Philosophical Society, Sean Hennessy and John McCrohan have won three debates to get to the final which again takes place at UCC and will be Kerry’s only representative.

“It’s a very tough competition, they have five minute speeches and they can be interrupted by other speakers during those speeches so they have done exceptionally well to get this far,” said Deputy Principal, Pat Fleming.

“This is Mercy Mounthawk’s first year taking part in the competition so we’re thrilled that they have reached the final,” he said.

The boys have been given motion for the final that is “that university departments based around the study of ethnic minorities should only appoint somebody from that minority to that department”. Mounthawk was selected to oppose the motion. Best of luck to them next week.
