KERRY Independent Deputy Michael Healy Rae has called the British people’s decision to exit the European Community as “an affront to our society”.

The British people voted by  52% to 48% to leave the European Union yesterday. In a statement on his Facebook page this morning, the Kilgarvan man also expressed concerns about the economic impact here, the implications for migration of workers between Ireland and Britain and that it could result in more immigrants, who were bound for the UK, coming to Ireland instead.

“I am extremely disappointed in the United Kingdom’s decision to abandon the European Union,” reads the statement.

“The European Union, formally created in 2002 after the decades of international cooperation between the countries of Europe, has provided an exceptional outlet in the free movement of goods, services and individuals creating an economically strong and vibrant Europe.  For the United Kingdom to shun these values in favour of their own independent policies formed within regulation from the rest of their community is an affront of our society,” he continued.

“The decision by the British people to leave the European community will have effects far beyond their own borders. We will too be affected by this action. With the removal of the UK from the EU trade channels, it will become more difficult for Irish producers to export their goods across the Irish sea, resulting in a potential decrease of 20% on the bilateral trade flows between the two countries and a 3.3% drop in total merchandise exports from Ireland, disproportionately affecting the Basic and Fabricated Metals, Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing, Food and Beverages, and the Textile product and sectors.”

“Finally, the labour migration of workers between Ireland and the United Kingdom is at risk. Given previous EU immigration laws, this had never been a problem, but now, it is possible that the UK could impose visa requirements upon Irish citizens working in the UK, creating a great inconvenience to our citizens. Furthermore, immigrants that had been bound for the UK will now come to Ireland, with research suggesting an average wage fall of 3.9% with workers in high skilled positions experiencing a 5% wage decrease.”

“Once again, I am very disappointed in the actions of the United Kingdom. They have not only abandoned their closest neighbours, but also the entire European Community,” concluded the statement.

British democracy, sovereignty and freedom should never be viewed as an affront or inconvenience to Ireland or the EU.

Unless of course, the Irish people or should I say the citizens of the EU object to democracy, sovereignty and freedom!

The British have not left Europe – just the European Union and the Irish should understand what it is like to leave a Union and the consequences – The Irish leaving was also an affront or inconvenience to the British Union! But, it was for Irish democracy, sovereignty and freedom!

Besides, this may not be the only departure from the EU!
Ireland has gone left when the European continent has gone to the right in terms of politics – we are the ones out of step!

Ireland’s politicians should prepare for this worst case scenario, we need to prepared to come out on top – just as Germany and France will be sure to be doing behind the scenes and who could blame them – it’s their duty to their citizens!

Good luck Michael Healy Rae, may the force be with you!

Germanу and France pan of undemocratic EU super state, “Is An Affront To Our Society”.

Document leaked by Polish media indicates Germanу and France could be taking matters in their own hands without bothering to consult Brussels or any other EU countries.
