Coiste na nÓg:

This Week in the Coiste na nÓg:

What a fantastic evening to start off the week as KSRP Chairman Jimmy Denihan, Gearoid Doherty and Maeve Ryan called to visit our GAA 4 ALL Group along with Donal Barry from Kerry Sports Hub. There was lots of excitement and a fabulous evening was had by all. We were delighted to have Oonagh from Ballymac GAA with us who has since told us they plan to start their GAA 4 ALL group next Sunday which is fantastic news.

Our U11 boys hosted Kerins O’Rahilly’s in 2 great games in the final round of the go games on Tuesday night. Our Milltown Castlemaine Teams were fantastic in both games with some fantastic defending and scoring to match. A real feature of their play was the way the ball was moved from backs to forwards through midfield, some excellent team work on show.

Our U13 Green Team had a fantastic start to the game against Ballymac on Sunday night to round off the week’s action and went into the halfway mark leading by 1-08 to 0-02. Despite a good second half from the home team our U13s played some excellent football all over the field and maintained their lead to win the match

2-13 to 1-08.

It was fantastic to see all the hard word coaches in the team photo with the lad, a big thank you to them all and to the Covid Supervisors also for being at training and matches every week.

The PRO Team would like to thank Virginija as always for doing amazing work in keeping us all up to date and capturing the wonderful team photos every week.

Well done again to all our U13s the white team are out for their final league game on Wednesday evening but all the lads got together this evening for a small celebration of a great league campaign.

Thank you to Alma’s Take-Away, Milltown, Co Kerry for supplying the amazing food as always.

As always thanks to our fantastic Coiste na nÓg Sponsors Foleys Spar here in Milltown.

Senior Round Up:

Senior C: Our only senior side in action this week were the Senior C Team in action in the Mid Kerry C League as they travelled back to picturesque West Kerry to face An Gaelteacht at Gallarus. Read Dara O’Connors report below to see how they got on in their first away fixture of the league.

Match Reports:

Mid Kerry Junior ‘C’ Football League

Group 1, Round 2

Milltown/Castlemaine 3-7 An Ghaeltacht 0-6

Venue: Gallarus

Referee: Michael Moriarty (Dingle)

Congratulations

Our Senior ‘C’ side who had a long journey tonight to Gallarus in West Kerry to take on An Ghaeltacht in Round 2 of this new Mid Kerry competition. Conditions were tricky but credit to all those who travelled and put in a very good performance and got a well deserved victory.

It is great to see so many lads getting game time, particularly those who have made a return to GAA over the past two weeks for the first time in a while and it’s also an opportunity for others to continue the development they have been making all season.

We played against a strong breeze in the first half but kept in touch all through which acted as the platform for the victory. An Ghaeltacht raced into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead after 10 minutes with Patrick O’Sullivan registering our opening point off his left leg from 21 yards. Our lads rose to the challenge and settled into the contest which was very open and a Jamie O’Shea goal after a Daniel Cronin pass followed by points from Patrick O’Sullivan again and a beauty from Nigel Wren seen us enter the half time interval in an encouraging position with the scores level at 1-3 to 0-6.

The second half seen our lads play with the elements in their favour and they really kicked on keeping An Ghaeltacht scoreless in the process and adding 2-4 of our own with Nigel Wren and Daniel Cronin to the fore around the middle of the park leading the way and delivering quality ball into the inside lines.

Both second half goals came from Colin McKenna with Eugene McCarthy assisting one and Jamie O’Shea the other. Pointed efforts from the impressive Nigel Wren (who finished with 0-3), Adam Lenihan who put in a great shift at wing back and the accurate Jamie O’Shea seen us run out convincing ten point winners with good performances all over the field and a clean sheet to match it after a late double goal-line clearance from a combination of Dara O’Connor and the one and only Damian Murphy!

Round 3 takes place next week when the C side take on Keel.

Team:

Dara O’Connor, Tomas Hayes, Patrick O’Connor, Adam Lenihan, Damian Murphy, Adam Scanlon, Nigel Wren, Patrick O’Sullivan, Linus Óg Burke, Daniel Cronin, Colin McKenna, Jamie O’Shea, Eugene McCarthy, Linus Burke.
