Coiste na nÓg:

Sponsored by Foleys Spar, Milltown

This Week in the Coiste na nÓg:

Our U9 boys were gazing at the skies on Wednesday evening as they took on Firies a stones throw from Kerry Airport. There was just as much activity on the field as above it however as our four 7 a side teams took on the firies teams. There were some outstanding performances and brilliant skills on show, well done to all the players.

Our U11 boys travelled into the heart of Killarney on Thursday evening to face a strong Legion side. Both of the two games were very evenly contested and there were great showings from both of our teams. Well done to the boys who looked fantastic in their brand new Jerseys, well done to Gary Murphy for organising them and many thanks to all the parents who have contributed throughout the year for them.

Our U15 side took to Mass Rock on Friday evening for training with a difference as the players enjoyed an evening off the field, well done to Turlough and all the U15 Coaches for organising.

Our U13 green team played Laune Rangers today in a challenge game and came away with a fine victory in a tight battle. This was our U13s second game against LR in successive weeks and a great measure of their progress against strong opposition. The coaches would like to thank Laune Rangers GAA Club for taking part over the last two weekends and also to Linus Og Burke for refereeing today’s game.

Field Development Project

Yet another busy week in our Field Development Project as we saw the first tar laid for our 550 metre community walkway which it is hoped will be finished in the coming days.

Included in this will be the tarring of the socialisation area, Shane Corkery of Corkery Carpentry and Joinery has been busy making picnic benches for this area which he delivered on Sunday morning. We are sincerely appreciative to Shane for his time, generosity and efforts in volunteering to do this for the club you can contact Corkery Carpentry and Joinery on 087 7846587 for info on their services.

Many thanks to Tadgh Dennehy, Paud Hogan, Jerome Twiss, Linus and Linus Og Burke, a great team who erected the brand new scoreboard sponsored by Burkes Butchers and Tooline. We would like to sincerely thank the Burke Family of Burkes Butchers and Tooline for their continued and generous support of Milltown/Castlemaine GAA Club

A big thank you also to Shane and Muiris Quirke as well as to Mike Cronin, Milltown for drawing away subsoil from the grounds in recent weeks.

A massive thanks also to these volunteers who have put in an incredible effort to prep the area where the tar is being laid this week, Colin Lynch, Jerome Twiss, Emmett Spring, Derek Twiss and Ian Twiss have worked into the night to get everything ready. A big thank you also to Colin McKenna for his excellent work on the dugout bases and dugouts.

Senior Round Up:

Senior:

Na Gaeil 3-13

Milltown/Castlemaine 0-07

Venue: Farranfore

Referee: Eddie Barrett

The opening round of the Kerry Petroleum Intermediate Club Football Championship took centre stage today as Milltown/Castlemaine met Na Gaeil in a sun soaked Farranfore.

Milltown/Castlemaine started the brighter and had the opening two scores from the boot of Jonathan O’Sullivan but that was a good as the afternoon got for the Mid Kerry side as Na Gaeil took control all over the pitch with their Kerry contingent of Diarmuid O’Connor and Jack Barry leading the way at midfield. Darragh Carmody was to the fore for the Tralee side, slotting 2-06 throughout the contest and at half time Milltown/Castlemaine faced an uphill task as Na Gaeil led 1-10 to 0-05.

Two back to back goals from the aforementioned Carmody and Dan Goggin in the second half seen Na Gaeil ease to victory as they ran out fifteen point winners.

Scores on the day from our side came from Jonathan O’Sullivan (0-6) and Cillian Burke (0-1).

Our lads travel to Gallarus next weekend for Round 2 vs An Ghaeltacht.
