Credit Union County Senior Football League: Division 2, Round 3
Milltown/Castlemaine ‘A’ made the journey to Templenoe last Saturday evening, April 9th for Round 3 of the Credit Union County Senior Football League. Templenoe had suffered two early defeats in this competition by narrow margins to Na Gaeil and Listowel Emmets but were bolstered by the return of two of their Kerry Senior Footballers in Killian Spillane and Gavin Crowley for last weekend’s clash. Milltown/Castlemaine on the other hand were coming into the tie on the back of two victories over Listowel Emmets and Annascaul respectively.

The hosts made a rip-roaring start as they raced into a seven point lead after 10 minutes following goals from Stephen O’Sullivan and Daniel Crowley. Milltown/Castlemaine started slowly but gradually dragged themselves back into the contest with Cathal Moriarty’s personal haul of 1-2 including a sublime goal and Eanna O’Connor with 0-4 in the first half leaving just four points between the sides at the half time interval with Templenoe leading 2-8 to 1-7.

In what was a wonderful game of open football which was end to end, the sides were level on no fewer than four separate occasions in the second half with Eanna O’Connor, Dylan O’Neil and Cathal Moriarty the away sides chief marksmen primarily from placed balls with the odd score from play.

Templenoe opened up a two point lead (2-10 to 1-11) heading down the home straight with pointed efforts from Brian Crowley and Killian Spillane but they couldn’t keep the visitors at bay as late scores from the aforementioned O’Connor who ended the match with a tally of 0-10 and a score deep into injury time from the talented Dylan O’Neil after he reacted quickest to a Cian O’Connor break in and around the square seen Milltown/Castlemaine win out by a solitary point on a score of 1-16 to 2-12 and make it three wins from three games in Division Two.

First half goals from Jonathan O’Sullivan and Ciaran O’Connor seen Milltown/Castlemaine carry a 2-06 to 0-04 lead into the half time interval after playing against a strong breeze in the opening half. An own goal early in the second half sealed the deal for the visitors despite a spirited effort from the home side as the half wore on, Michael O’Keeffe raising a green flag for Fossa but points from Sean Hogan, Kieran O’Carroll, Jonathan O’Sullivan and a lovely score from Linus Óg Burke at the end seen Milltown/Castlemaine run out ten point winners.
