Seniors

County League: Milltown Castlemaine 2:12  Kerins O’ Rahilly’s 2:12

Despite both teams lining out without a number of regulars, this turned out a lively entertaining affair with both sets of players giving it their all. Rahilly’s were quickest out of the traps with two early points through Gearóid Savage and Tommy Walsh who was having a great tussle with Milltown Castlemaine’s Dónal Kelliher.  Dónal was deputising at full back for the absent Damian Murphy.

By the quarter hour mark, Milltown Castlemaine had pegged it back and gone into a 4 points to 3 lead. Then Kerins O’ Rahilly’s struck for a goal -after a sweet pass from corner forward John Ferguson found Eoin Carroll who then crashed the ball to the roof of the net -despite the tight angle.

This gave them a 1:04 to :04 lead. A couple of Cathal Moriarty frees kept Milltown Castlemaine in touch but the pendulum swung in Kerins O’ Rahilly’s favour when Donal Kelliher had to leave the field due to a hamstring injury and Tommy Walsh proceeded to have a purple patch, scoring one point and playing in the inform Ferguson for their second goal and his sixth in four games.

Unfortunately this was his last major contribution to the game as he was unable to resume for the second half. Rahilly’s went in at the break with a comfortable 2:06 to :07 lead.

The introduction of a number of the youngsters for MC (all U21) in the second half namely Donal Dennehy, Ciarán O’ Connor and Tadhg McCarthy along with the first half substitution of Gavin McKenna for the unlucky Kelliher, seemed to energize the Milltown Castlemaine side.

With points from Cathal Moriarty(2), Shane Murphy and Ciarán O’ Connor, along with a peach of a goal from David Roche set up by the fleet footed Eoin O’ Brien( two more of the U21 brigade) they played themselves right back into the game.
Rahilly’s rallied with a couple of points and looked to be in for a goal to kill the game off when Tadgh McCarthy got back to clear the lines and start a move that finished with the ball in   Rahilly’s net – courtesy of Ciarán O’ Connor. The Strand Road men weren’t finished yet and regained the lead again by 1.

Milltown Castlemaine finished strongly and levelled the match 2:12 to 2:12 despite having what looked a perfectly good point ruled wide by the umpire earlier.
Spoils shared by two teams fielding a number of youngsters who didn’t seem out of their depth in the top tier especially Ciarán O’ Connor who came in to score 1:01 on his debut.

Well done to Mike Hickey, Mike Carroll, Timmy Teahan and the entire panel of players. A great team effort.
Next outing for our seniors is on August 14 th when they are away to Castleisland Desmonds.

Keanes Super Valu Minor Championship:

The next round sees  Mid Kerry v Kenmare District Board on August 3rd at Beaufort Gaa Grounds. Best of luck to all especially our club players Cormac Leane,(captain) Pádraig O’ Brien, Ciarán O’ Connor, Cain Bradley and Craig Counihan.
Kerry U 16 Girls:
Our good wishes to the Kerry Under 16 girls who will play Dublin in the All Ireland in Nenagh on Wednesday evening next.
Ciara Murphy, from our ladies club, is part of the Kerry team who are going for 2 in a row. Ciara has worn the Number 7 with pride over the past two years but unfortunately injured her collarbone in the All Ireland semi final.

Ciara O’ Brien from Laune Rangers will captain the team.

Laune Rangers are hosting a Welcome Evening for the Kerry U16 Girls on Thursday, 28th of July.

Win, lose or draw -Laune Rangers hope to go ahead with this event to honour the achievements of the Kerry U16 girls in 2016.
It is hoped that the girls will gather at The Fishery and will be led up the town by the Killorglin Pipe Band-meeting at Library Place @ 8pm for introductions of the team & mentors.

Kerry minors and seniors

Best of luck to Peter Keane and the Kerry Minors as they take on Derry on Sunday next. Our senior keeper – Cormac Leane is part of the panel.
We also wish Eamonn Fitzmaurice and the senior panel every success in their All Ireland Quarter Final versus Clare on Sunday next also -in Croke Park.

Revised dressing room / sideline guidelines:
Please note that under age players are not permitted inside the dressing rooms prior to or after a senior game or inside the surrounding fence wire when a senior game is ongoing. This is to protect all parties involved.

We ask parents and guardians to continually remind their children of this rule which will be strictly enforced. We appreciate your on going support and cooperation.

Appropriate Football Gear:
Can all underage team managers, trainers/coaches please ensure that all players representing Milltown /Castlemaine are dressed in club colours (Green and White socks and togs.)   This is to avoid any inconvenience prior to games.
We would also ask parents/guardians of players to inform their children of this County Board Rule.
