Minister Foley Announces €10m For Kerry Schools Projects

MINISTER for Education and Kerry T.D Norma Foley today announced over €10 million to be invested in school building projects in Kerry to assist with ‘23/24 enrolments.

This funding allocation will provide for state-of-the-art facilities in a number of locations across the county and provide accommodation for the coming school year in both special education and mainstream settings.

In this tranche of funding St. Francis Special School in Beaufort, Killarney and St. Josephs Secondary School in Doon Road, Ballybunion, have been specifically chosen to benefit from this initiative.

St. Francis Special School and St Josephs will receive two bespoke modular units, designed to support, nurture and enrich the learning experience for their students

Both projects have been devolved and are being approved for the 2023/24 school year.

Minister Foley also confirmed that Killarney Community College will receive initial project approval for modular accommodation to provide for six mainstream classrooms, one music room, one art room and a science and preparation area.

Colaiste na Sceilge, Caherciveen, is also approved modular accommodation and receives initial project approval for two science rooms and one art room.

Minister Foley said: “Government recognises the importance of inclusive education and today’s announcement of over €10 million is further testament of our commitment to empowering every student and fostering an inclusive society. Our priority is to meet the growing demand for special education and it is our absolute determination that these facilities will be delivered to schools in time for the ‘23/24 school year.

“To match demand for the coming school year state-of-the-art modular accommodation, costing over €10 million will provide tailored, modern facilities and ensure special education provision can continue to thrive and flourish in Kerry.”
