THE Rockies go marching on but the Strand Road men will have to advance the hard way, after the Garvey’s Kerry Senior Football Championship double header at Austin Stack Park this evening.

Austin Stacks got past a game St Michael’s Foilmore side who came up short in the end, 1-13 to 2-6 in favour of the champions in slippy conditions.

This was the opening game and the Stacks suffered a bit of a scare in the first half, when the south Kerry side lay just a point behind the Tralee men 2-3 to 1-7 at the short whistle.

However Stacks began to dominate in the second half and pulled away towards the end, thanks to David Mannix who scored eight points in all during the hour.

Kerins O’Rahilly’s faced Rathmore in the second encounter and this was a much tighter affair..

The east Kerry men got off to a great start scoring 1-2 without reply in the opening four minutes. O’Rahilly’s rallied though and on 15 minutes they were level thanks to a John Ferguson goal.

Rathmore led by one point at the break (1-4 to 1-3) and when play resumed they increased their advantage and kept their noses in front until a David Moran converted penalty levelled things with six minutes to go.

However, Rathmore’s John Moynihan scored a goal with three minutes and proved the decisive score, the east Kerry men winning 2-8 to 2-5.

The Strand Road men now go into the losers round.

We’ll have full match reports and loads of action photos tomorrow
