The Rose of Tralee Festival hosted an event to recognise businesses and organisations who have supported the Festival over the years at The Rose Hotel this morning.

THE Executive Chair of the Rose of Tralee International Festival is once again appealing to the business community in the town to contribute towards the costs of the street entertainment at the Festival.

The Festival hosted a breakfast at The Rose Hotel on Friday morning where many long-standing local sponsors and supporters of the Festival were recognised for their support over the years. It was also announced that Aslan and the Hothouse Flowers would play free concerts on Denny Street during the Festival this year.

Anthony O’Gara, said: “As we approach our 60 Year Celebrations of the Rose of Tralee, we want to say a special thank you to some exceptional local people and organisations who show generosity beyond the norm in support of the Festival.

“The Streets Festival in Tralee is a very important element of our celebration.  It is a major undertaking involving five days of live family friendly entertainment, including multiple parades, firework displays, carnival, circus, concerts and much more.  The budget required is around €350,000.

“We couldn’t possibly consider staging such a challenging event without the support we receive from some very caring people and organisations, to whom we are most grateful.”

In 2018 the business community in Tralee contributed €65,000, which is less than 20% of the Street Entertainment budget.

“We work very hard to carry out our remit, but we do not have the resources to continue on the current basis and we need a major increase in the business contribution,” said Anthony O’Gara.
