A MERCY Mounthawk student has received an award in the Stagewise inaugural School Musical Awards competition.
The school received six nominations for their musical ‘Hairspray’ which ran in January, in Siamsa Tíre, and Promise Ekwuhama won the award for Best Female Singer.
This year the school entered a new School Musical Awards Competition organised by Stagewise, and 74 schools from all over the country had their shows adjucated during the school year. The winners were announced last Friday.

The adjucator’s report on ‘Hairspray’ was hugely positive, highlighting Tony Behan’s “superb direction”, and it stated that the talent of the 130 young students on display was “awe-inspiring”.
The six categories they were nominated in were;
• Best Visual (Costumes, Make-up, Props)
• Best Choral Singing
• Rising Star – Sorcha Ringland
• Best Female Singer – Promise Ekwuhama
• Best Director – Tony Behan
• Best Overall Show
