STUDENTS at Mercy Mounthawk were made aware about the causes of cancer and how to help prevent it on Monday, when one of the Marie Keating Foundation’s Mobile Information Units paid a visit to the school.

Specialist nurse from the foundation, Marie Fitzgerald, was on hand and spoke to the students about the dangers of smoking, exposure to the sun and not leading a healthy lifestyle in general.

The units visit community groups, workplaces, organisations and public places to bring cancer information straight into the heart of communities nationwide.

The Marie Keating Foundation’s work focuses on raising awareness of all of the common cancers affecting men and women in Ireland and the healthy lifestyle choices to reduce the risk of cancer.
