MERCY Mounthawk transition year students have launched their own school Credit Union that will operate every Friday at lunch time.

Tralee Credit Union and Mercy Mounthawk have partnered to promote saving among secondary students. As an incentive to sign up, the Credit Union will put €10 in their account to get the ball rolling.

The school Credit Union is open to all students and staff in Mercy Mounthawk Secondary School.

Over the past few weeks, students, have been busy with Tralee Credit Union, who have provided in house training so students themselves can run it.

“It’s a great opportunity for the students themselves to learn and experience the operational side of running a financial service,” said Tralee Credit Union’s, Suzanne Ennis.

It is hoped the Credit Union will be a great benefit to both students and staff at Mercy Mounthawk. The Credit Union will be located  outside the school library every Friday.
