PUPILS at Moyderwell Mercy Primary School showed their generous side by taking part in the annual Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal.

The children take part in the appeal every year where they make up boxes for disadvantaged children in other countries.

“The boxes are shipped to around 20 disadvantaged countries in Eastern Europe and Africa mostly,” explained teacher, Laura Daly, when we called to the school on Monday.

“Each box has four items — something to write with, something to wear, something to play with and something to wash with. The children from third to sixth classes collected about 40 boxes this year. Some created their own box, others shared with a friend. It’s a great awareness of other less fortunate children and of the joy of giving at Christmas,” said Laura.
