Seniors    Na Gaeil travelled to Killorglin on Saturday evening to take on Laune Rangers in round 6 of the County League. Conditions were perfect for football and Eoin O’Neill opened the scoring with a point in the first minute.

Slack defending allowed Laune Rangers in for a goal in the 3rd minute followed by two further points.

Jack Carmody and Mike Griffin pulled back two for Na Gaeil and then Laune Rangers scored three points in a row to put them five in front after 23 minutes of the first half. Mike Griffin scored a free and Kieran Dineen fired over from 30 metres to leave the half time score: Na Gaeil 0-05; Laune Rangers 1-05.

Mike Griffin put over a free in the first minute of the 2nd half after a foul on Jamie Lowham. Laune Rangers pulled one back before Mike Griffin scored again. The all important goal for Na Gaeil came in the 10th minute of the half.

A long ball was floated into the square and the in-form Jamie Lowham punched it to the net to put them a point ahead. Darragh Carmody was introduced in the 12th minute and he put over a free for Na Gaeil followed by points from Jamie Lowham, Jack Carmody and another pointed free from Darragh Carmody to put them 5 ahead after 18 minutes of the half. But Laune Rangers were awarded free which they took quickly to the full forward and he crashed it to the net.

Laune Rangers then scored the next three points to go one point ahead with 4 minutes of normal time remaining. But Na Gaeil composed themselves and Darragh Carmody put over a free to level the game and Jack Carmody and Jamie Lowham scored two more to give Na Gaeil a two point victory on a score line of Na Gaeil: 1-14; Laune Rangers 2-09.

It was a great team performance on the night. Paul Daly gave a super display in defence when introduced for the injured Eoghain Sheehy early in the first half, al;ong with Kieran Dineen and Eoin Walsh. Eoin O’ Neill was excellent in midfield and up front Jack Carmody. Mike Griffin and Jamie Lowham got some great scores.

U14    Na Gaeil U14’s are back in action Monday evening after their break since winning the County League.

They are hosting Ardfert in the first round of this year’s Central Region league. Throw in is at 6.30pm in Killeen. This is the start of a busy week, as the team will be travelling to Cavan and Monaghan on Friday to represent Kerry in the National Féile finals. Our first game on Friday evening in Bailieborough is against South London at 6.30pm.

This will be a tough start against a team who have had numerous successes in Féile, the most recent being last year in Tralee.

Our second game is against the local club Bailieborough Shamrocks. After the two games, we travel to Magheracloone in County Monaghan who are our host club for the weekend. The players will meet up with their host families after the welcome ceremony in the clubhouse on Friday night.

We will be meeting up after training in the clubhouse on Wednesday evening to present Féile gear to the players and go through the schedule for the weekend with players and parents. The draw for our fundraising raffle will also be held on Wednesday evening.

Finally, congratulations to Tralee Parnells on their excellent performance last weekend in the hurling Féile finals. There were seven Na Gaeil players on the Parnells panel who qualified for the quarter finals of the Cup competition losing out to the eventual winners after some great displays of hurling.

U12    Na Gaeil U12 Boys finished the current round of Division 7 with two defeats to Knock/Brosna and Tarbert. Despite a brave effort both opponents proved to be too strong. We will now have another break before the next series of games begins. Training will continue, watch out for the texts.

Na Gaeil Ladies    Na Gaeil v Corca Dhuibhne, Div 3 Ladies U12 County League.

In a must win game to make the Div 3 Shield Final, we played in Gallarus in very windy conditions. We started with the wind with early points from Caoilinn and Siena after Roisin and Chloe played them in.

Siun set up Siena for a goal. Cara and Aoife Barrett combined to play in Caoilinn for another point.

We kept Corca Dhuibne to 1 point in the 1st half. We had all the possession but we couldn’t get the scores that our play deserved, and we didn’t use the wind to full effect. Our full back line of Elsie Peg, Niamh and Ava were going to be busy in the 2nd half as we played into the wind. Corca Dhuibhne started the 2nd half brightly, scoring 2 early points.

We were under pressure at this stage as we couldn’t get hold of the ball. They scored another 4 points before they had a thunderous shot which hit the back of the net.

We found ourselves down 4 points with 10 minutes to go. Jessie, Eve and Katie came into the forwards to cause havoc. Cara won the ball from Hayley’s kick out, turned and found Sorcha who turned and found the back of the net.

Aoife Hartnett and Caoimhe came into the backs alongside Grace, Aisling and Elizabeth and we shored up the backs. We drove forward with Caoilinn and Siena to score a point apiece to win the game by a point. We now face Laune Rangers in the final on Wednesday the 21st in Na Gaeil at 7.00pm.

Team: Katie Casey, Niamh Ryan, Ava Rice, Roisin O’Mahony, Elsie Peg Rogers, Aoife Barrett, Aisling Casey, Cara Gannon, Sorcha Casey, Caoilinn O’Brien, Siena Lucey, Aoife Hartnett, Chloe Quillinan, Grace Savage, Elizabeth Burke, Ellen Burke, Caoimhe Fernane, Jessie Grealish, Eve Broderick,

Na Gaeil v Laune Rangers, Div 3 Ladies U14 County League.

We played in Killeen on Tuesday night knowing that a win would put us into the County League Cup Final despite having 1 more round to play.

We started straight out of the blocks with Siena scoring a goal followed by a point from Muire and Ciara. Sarah scored another 2 points before Kayleigh scored 2 more points. Cara set up Jessica for a goal. We were relentless.

Our midfield and forwards left no ball through the middle. This allowed Emma and Cara Grealish to support our wing forwards with some great runs. Freya scored a goal before Sarah finished off the half with 2 points. Grace, Megan and Ailbhe left nothing past them on the full back line which left Aoife a virtual bystander in the goals. We started the 2nd half as good as the 1st half with goals from Ciara and Kayleigh.

Siena scored another few points before she was put into goals to allow Aoife to come into the forwards. Eimer strode forward with a great run to score a point. Laune Rangers got forward towards the end and scored 2 points before Siena made a tremendous 1 on 1 save. Our last round is against Scartaglin on Monday the 19th.

Team:  Megan Fernane, Eimer O’Sullivan, Sarah Barrett, Freya O’Connor, Muire Kingston, Kayleigh Costello, Emma Dewey, Siena Lucey, Jessica Harrington, Aoife Barrett , Ciara Rath, Cara Grealish, Cara Gannon, Grace Savage, Ailbhe Daly.
