Seniors   The senior team have a break from County League action until Sunday June 4th when they take on Annascaul away.

This is to facilitate the playing of County Championship games in May. Mike griffin, Andrew Barry, Kieran Donovan, Jack Barry, Diarmaid Herlihy, Darragh Carmody, Eoin Doody and Stefan Okunbor were part of the St. Brendan’s squad that defeated an under strength Shannon Rangers side in the preliminary round of the senior county championship in Austin Stack Park on Saturday evening.

They take on Kilcummin in the next round next weekend in Blennerville.

New Website    Na Gaeil Club launched its new website at the Tralee Business & Community Expo at the Sports Complex on Saturday. Log on at www.nagaeil.ie  for all the news regarding reports, fixtures, results and much more.

U14    Our Under 14 team made the long trip to Kenmare for round four of the county league. After a scoreless first ten minutes the home side opened the scoring with a point from a free and they quickly followed up with a second point. Na Gaeil eventually got into the game and opened their scoring with a point which was immediately followed with a well taken goal. Na Gaeil’s confidence grew from these scores and they began to dominate possession and further scores followed.

They quickly added another goal and three points before Kenmare could respond. The home side got their third score of the half but Na Gaeil struck back with two further goals in the closing five minutes to leave the half time score Na Gaeil 4-4 Kenmare 0-3.

Kenmare opened the scoring in the second half with a point but Na Gaeil immediately replied with their first score of the half. However, the home side were in no mood to let Na Gaeil dominate the second half and began to work their way back into the game.

They scored two quick goals and a point to leave only two scores between the sides as the game entered the final quarter. Na Gaeil eventually got their second score of the half and soon followed up with another goal to end any hope of a Kenmare comeback.

Despite this Kenmare did not give up and scored another goal and a point before Na Gaeil got the last score of the match to leave the final score Na Gaeil 5-7 Kenmare 3-6.

Our next game in the County League is Wednesday when we travel to Ardfert for the final round of the league. The league has been very closely competed this year but a victory on Wednesday will earn us a home semi-final.

Panel: A Delhunty, S Ryan, L Kingston, J Doyle,  C O’Neill, K O’Connor, D Henriksson, J Fitzgerald, T Reen, P Walsh, G Sheehy, J O’Connor, C Murphy, S O’Connor, G Sheehy, D Moriarty, J Roche, N Rogers, J Dakissia.

National Féile Finals     The Na Gaeil U 14 team are looking forward to a weekend away in Monaghan in June after winning Kerry Féile B last Wednesday evening in Fossa. After topping our Group two weeks ago, we qualified to the play Kenmare in the semi-final. Na Gaeil dominated possession in the opening period but struggled to convert their dominance to scores.

However, they eventually found their range and finished the first half leading by five points to zero. Na Gaeil were quick out of the blocks in the second period scoring a goal and a point before Kenmare registered their first scores. Na Gaeil finished strongly scoring another two goals to leave the final score Na Gaeil 3-6 Kenmare 0-3.

In the final, we met Kilgarvan/Tuosist who defeated Miltown/Castlemaine in the second semi-final. Na Gaeil started the game brightly and scored a goal and two points to open an early lead. However, Kilgarvan/Tuosist were soon back in the game with a goal and they finished the half strongly adding another three points to leave the half time score Na Gaeil 1-2 Kilgarvan/Tuosist 1-3.

The Na Gaeil youngsters wanted to go to Féile and came out in the second half in very determined fashion. They scored 4-3 in the second period, keeping the opposition scoreless to leave the final score Na Gaeil 5-5 Kilgarvan/Tuosist 1-3.

The national finals will be held in Cavan/Fermanagh/Monaghan from June 23rd to June 25th. Our host club are Magheraclcone in County Monaghan.

Congratulations to the team and all involved. We will receive further details in the coming week, which will be passed on to all players and parents.

There is a bag pack for the Club next Saturday in Tesco Manor. The under 14 team will be notified of hours they are covering during the week.

U12    Na Gaeil Boys U12’s played Listowel Emmetts in Listowel on Sunday. On a perfect evening for playing football, we started brightly with the opening goal.

Listowel scored several points after that and went in at half time leading by 12 points. A much improved second-half performance saw Na Gaeil scoring 2-9. The boys showed tremendous heart and determination.

However, the damage had been done in the first half and the game finished Na Gaeil 3-10, Listowel Emmetts 5-16.  A special mention, and best wishes, to Rory Reen, who left the field with a shoulder injury.

We look forward to his return in the green and white soon. There will be a break in the County League games for a short time while the Divisions are adjusted. A text will issue with details of further games and training sessions.

U10    Last Sunday over 20 of our boys made the trip to John Mitchels to play them in a challenge game. We had 2 teams and everyone got plenty of game time. Mitchels are coming to us next Sunday (14th) at 10.45am so hopefully we’ll have a good turnout of players once again. Please remember to bring your mouth guard & a bottle of water.

U8    Our U8’s had a very busy week with mid-week games in the town blitz hosted by Keirns O Rahillys. We also played Austin Stacks on Saturday and John Mitchels on Sunday. Each game was a fantastic opportunity to put our skills into practice. Great to see so many players improve with match practice.

Next week we host John Mitchels at the Na Gaeil pitch. We need to meet at the pitch at 10.45am so we can start games at 11 am sharp. See you all next Sunday at 10.45am. Bring gum shields and water and in the meantime keep practising your ball skills!

Girls U8’s and U10’s    The girls played their first match this year with Ballymac visiting us in Killleen on a beautiful Sunday morning for two games. Both games were very competitive but played in a good sporting manner. This was a great exercise for some of our new players as this was their first experience of playing in a match. In the U10 game after a good battle, Ballymac were just a bit too strong for us. In the U8 game Na Gaeil with the help of some of the regulars in their second year playing along with the newcomers had a very evenly contested game with some great scoring. Congratulations to any of our players who make their First Holy communion last Saturday and good luck to those who are making it this coming weekend. There should be a few more challenge matches arranged in the coming weeks so watch out for the texts.

U6    What a sight to see on Saturday last as the sun shone down on the under 6 team as they took on the Stacks in the Complex field. A great display by all our players and a positive start to the match season. Well done all.

Community Games    St. Brendan’s/ Oakpark Community games for athletics will take place on Wednesday, the 10th of May at Na Gaeil.Entry fee: 3 Euro per child.

Congratulations    Well done to Sarah Barrett and Emer O’Sullivan who were part of the victorious Kerry U14 team that defeated Cork in the Munster Final in Mallow on Sunday. Well done also to Fergal Barry who was on the Kerry U17 team that defeated Tipperary in the Munster semi final in Austin Stack Park on Tuesday evening last.

Na Gaeil Ladies    Na Gaeil v Beaufort, Mary Jo Curran Cup

We played away on Sunday to a strong Beaufort team containing 4 strong Kerry Minors which turned to be a very entertaining game. Meagan got us off to the perfect start with a goal from 25yrds. We quickly followed this on with points from Clodagh McHugh, Eilis and a brace from Jadyn and Sibeal. Beaufort got their 1st goal of the game.

Clodagh McHugh and Sibeal replied with another point apiece after some great passing by Meabh and Kate-Anne. As half time was coming to a close and Jadyn just scored another goal for us, we were dealt a blow as the referee gave one of our players a yellow and was sin binned. Beaufort took advantage scoring 3 quick goals.

We regrouped at half time but Beaufort got an early goal before we started to take control with Clodagh and Sheilah covering the corners and Mary in the centre stopping everything coming through the centre with Nora and Sarah covering in front of them. Brid had her hands full marking Hannah O’Donoghue but never gave her space.

We were starting to control the game again as we were 15 v 15 again with Mary, Sarah and Meabh scoring points, Erika had 2 good shots on goal but both were saved. Mags came on and was unlucky not to score after Eilis found her after a great run.

Mairin found Erika with a great pass for another point. Meagan and Jadyn scored another point after great work from Meabh.  Eilis scored 2 more points with 10 minutes left to give us a healthy lead but on the end Beaufort won a penalty.

Aine saved the penalty but couldn’t save the follow up. This gave Beaufort a new lease of life and from the resulting kick out they won the ball and scored another goal. Beaufort were on top at this stage and were getting the rub of the green but our players stood up with Kate Anne, Mary, and Brid taking control in defence.

Meabh found Eilis who got fouled just outside the 21 which Meagan kicked over the bar. Jadyn won the kick out and whistle was blown for full time. Final Score 2.21 to 8.01. This was a great win and with the team play and work rate, we deserved the win. Our supporters were treated to really exciting game of football.

Na Gaeil v Finuge/St Senans, Ladies Div 2 Plate Semi Final
We played Finuge/St Senans in the Plate Semi Final on Sunday evening in Finuge. We started brightly with a point apiece from Siena, Cara, Caoilinn and Elizabeth.

Siena followed this up with a goal after some great defending from Elsie Peg, Grace and Aisling. Caoilinn scored another 2 points before Siun scored our last point before half time after a fine pass from Ava. Shania, Aoife and Roisin were outstanding in defence as they let no shot on goal in the 1st half.

Cara and Sorcha got the 2nd half off to a great start with 2 quick points after Grace made some good tackles. Caoimhe came into the backs with Jessie and Katie going into the forwards and helped Siun, Siena and Caoilinn score another few points.

Chloe then set up Aoife to score a goal before Priya won the ball in her half and found Aoife to score the last of her 2 points. This was a great performance with a final against Beale/Ballyduff to look forward to.

U16 Ladies    There was no U16 match this week as our next opponents, Ballymacelligott, needed to push the game out.  Well done to the girls who played with the senior team in the win over Beaufort at the weekend.

Also well done to the Kerry U14’s who beat Cork in the Munster final, especially our own girls Sarah Barrett and Eimer O’Sullivan. The U16 girls are continuing with training and will be finishing their county league matches in the next two weeks so that the girls can focus on their Junior Cert studies.
