U14:  Na Gaeil U14’s played Castlegregory in the semi-final of County League last Wednesday evening in Killeen. Both teams found scores hard to come by in the opening minutes, but Na Gaeil eventually broke the deadlock scoring two unanswered points to open an early lead. Castlegregory soon got their first score of the game but Na Gaeil extended their lead with a goal after fifteen minutes. Castlegregory didn’t panic and were immediately back in the game with their first goal of the game.

The game opened up after this score and Na Gaeil found their range scoring a goal and two points to lead by six points after twenty minutes. The seesaw pattern of the first half continued in the last ten minutes as Castlegregory got the next two scores before Na Gaeil struck back with another two points of their own.

The visitors replied with another point and then followed up with a goal on the stroke of half time to leave the score at the interval Na Gaeil 2-6 Castlegregory 2-4.

Castlegregory started the second half in a determined manner and were soon level after two quick scores. Na Gaeil got their first score of the half to regain the lead, but Castlegregory struck back with another point to draw the sides level once more. Na Gaeil got the next score but Castlegregory replied with another two points to take the lead for the first time as the game entered the final quarter.

However, the lead was short lived as Na Gaeil hit a purple patch scoring a goal and three points to open a five point lead. The competitive nature of the game continued as Castlegregory struck back with a goal and a point to leave a single score between the sides as the game entered the final minutes.

The next score would prove to be crucial and it came from Na Gaeil who scored their fourth goal of the game and followed up with the final score to leave the score Na Gaeil 4-12, Castlegregory 3-10 when the referee blew the final whistle. Both sides played their part in this very enjoyable and keenly contested game.

Na Gaeil Ladies U12 v Laune Rangers, Div 3 County League

We played at home in our 1st match in the County League on Tuesday evening in blustery conditions.

We played against the wind with Siena scoring our 1st point, but with a strong breeze Roisin, Niamh and Aoife were kept busy with long balls being played in. Siena, Sorcha and Caoilinn got a point apiece to keep us on top and Chloe got us a goal.

We kept Rangers to a single point for the first 10 minutes despite the wind but unfortunately we couldn’t them quiet for long, they scored a goal from distance, we struggled to get hold of the ball for the next 10 mins with Rangers scoring 3.05, this left us 10 points down at half time with a score line of 4.05 to 1.04.

We came out ready for the 2nd half ready to go, Siena scored a goal nearly straight from the kick off followed by a point from Cara and Sorcha, Half backs Elsie Peg, Aisling and Aoife Barrett took control of the backs with Ava, Caoimhe and Grace letting no player pass to protect Elizabeth in goals. Niamh went into the forwards and scored a point from a free kick. Katie won us another free kick which Cara put over the bar.

We had all the pressure on Rangers. Aoife Hartnett won us a 45 which Siena put over the bar. Priya found Sorcha with a lovely pass, passed to Caoilinn who found the back of the net, we were level but not finished. Caoilinn and Cara scored another 2 points apiece after some great work by Siun and Jessie.

We kept Laune Rangers to 1 point in the 2nd half. A great never give up attitude from the players gave them the result they richly deserved. Final Score Na Gaeil 3.13 to Laune Rangers 4.06.

Team: Aoife Barrett, Aisling Casey, Niamh Ryan, Roisin O Mahony, Ava Rice, Shania McCarthy, Elizabeth Burke, Jessie Grealish, Caoimhe Fernane, Cara Gannon, Siena Lucey, Sorcha Casey, Grace Savage, Katie Casey, Chloe Quillinan, Caoilinn O Brien, Elsie Peg Rogers, Siun Fitzgibbon, Priya O Donovan, Aoife Hartnett,

Na Gaeil Ladies U14 v Firies, Div 3 County League

We played away to Firies on Sunday evening in Blustery conditions. We started the game with the wind after Eimer won the toss. We had a great start with an early goal from Muire after Jessica won the ball in he corner.

Emma Savage found Kayleigh Costello and she found the back of the net. Sarah found Siena with a great long ball pass, Siena bore down on goal but got dragged down for a penalty which she superbly dispatched into the top corner. Firies worked the ball up the field and brought themselves back into the game with a goal and 3 points.

We came back down then with a point from Sarah before Ciara scored another goal for us. Firies got a late goal at the end of the 1st half with a half time score of 5.01 to 2.03. We had it all to do in the 2nd playing into a strong breeze, Freya won the ball from the throw in, found Caoilinn, passed to Muire and goal. Sarah and Freya were bossing midfield winning everything around them.

Half Backs Eimer along with Emma Dewey and Ailbhe either side stood strong against the Firies attack and with the pacey Kayleigh Murphy, Megan and Aoife in the full back line, nothing was passing these girls.

They were all first to the ball whenever any ball came their way and with Eimer and Emma Dewey starting each attack from defence, we were well on top. Caoilinn hit the crossbar after more good work from Emma Savage.

Muire scored our last goal before we got more points from Ciara, Kayleigh Costello, Sarah, Muire and Freya. With the last kick of the game, Firies scored their only score of the 2nd half. Well done on a great performance from all. Final Score 7.07 to 3.03
