Seniors     Na Gaeil entertained Finuge in Killeen in Round 5 of the County League on Saturday afternoon last. Playing with the aid of a strong breeze Na Gaeil was first off the mark with points from Mike Griffin and Eoin O’Neill. Finuge scored their first point on 10 minutes from the boot of Mike Conway.

Na Gaeil scored the next two points through Seamie O’Neill and a Mike Griffin free. Finuge’s no. 13 Raymond Galvin fired over a point on the quarter hour mark to leave the score:  Na Gaeil 0-04; Finuge 0-02.

Na Gaeil took control of the game for the next 10 minutes with good scores coming from Eoin O’Neill, Mike Griffin, Jack Carmody, Kieran Dineen and Andrew Barry. Finuge’s no. 6 Maurice Corridan scored two points from frees in the 29th and 30th minute of the half to leave the score at the interval: Na Gaeil 0-09: Finuge 0-04.

Finuge had the advantage of the strong breeze in the 2nd half but it was the impressive Andrew Barry for Na Gaeil that put over the first point after a great run through the centre.

Finuge’s Darren O’Sullivan cancelled this out with a good score from play followed by another good point from their full forward Mike Conway. Mike Griffin pulled one back for Na Gaeil and Maurice Corridan pointed a free for Finuge.

On 22 minutes Finuge’s Mike Conway won a poor Na Gaeil kick out and was straight through on goal but his point blank shot was brilliantly parried over the bar by Na Gaeil’s net minder Tadhg O’Neill. Na Gaeil were 3 points up when impressive corner back Eoghain Sheehy made it 4 with a great point from the right wing.

Finuge’s full back was on the end of a great move to fire one over and bring it back to a 3 point game with 3 minutes of normal time remaining.

Then came the defining moment. Finuge’s Jason Wallace was pulled down in the small square and a penalty was awarded. Maurice Corridan struck low and hard to the bottom right hand corner but it was brilliantly saved by Tadhg O’Neill in the Na Gaeil goal.

A goal would have drawn the game and put Finuge in the driving seat but the save spurred on the home team and they scored the last two points of the half through Andrew Barry and Seamie O’Neill to run out 5 point winners on a scoreline: Na Gaeil 0-14; Finuge 0-09.

Andrew Barry was a colossus for Na Gaeil all through and was ably assisted by David Culloty and Eoghain Sheehy in defence.

Dan O’ Connor and Eoin O’Neill were solid at midfield and up front Mike Griffin, Jamie Lowham and Jack Carmody were impressive. But man of the match has to go to Na Gaeil’s goalkeeper Tadhg O’Neill for making three point blank saves including the penalty save to ensure that the two points went to the home side.

Girls U8 & 10    The U10 girls played in a blitz last Saturday along with Austin Stacks and two visiting Clare teams from Fergus Rovers Club in Connolly Park. We played in three very competitive matches and it was a great outing for all our players. We had a combination of our regular U10’s joined by some of our U8’s and it was a great experience for them. Thanks to Stacks for the invitation. No rest this coming weekend as the annual North Kerry U10 Blitz takes place this coming Saturday in Ballymac. We are looking forward to another morning of football.

Summer Camps    The GAA Cúl Camp is on in Na Gaeil from July 3rd to July 7th and our own club summer camp is on from July 24th to July 28th. If you are interested in taking part let your club mentors know.

Na Gaeil Ladies     Na Gaeil U12 Ladies v ISG, Div 3 County League.

We played on Tuesday evening in Na Gaeil against a big strong ISG(Kenmare, Kilgarvan, Templenoe). We elected to go with the wind and started brightly. Scores from Caoilinn and Siena got us going. ISG responded with a point.

Scores on the night were very low as both defences were superb with Roisin, Chloe, Aoife Hartnett, Katie, Eve and Priya being marked tightly. Jessie, Caoilinn, Siena and Grace had to work hard for any of their scores.

Sorcha and Cara were working hard in midfield. Our backs Elsie Peg, Aisling, and Aoife Barrett were working tirelessly to keep ball away from their forwards with Niamh, Caoimhe, Ava and Shania protecting our goalkeeper from any shots on goal. They were outstanding but with nearly the last kick of the game ISG scored a late goal to win the game by 2 points. It was hard on the girls as we had most of the possession but some great defending by ISG kept us at bay.

Team: Katie Casey, Niamh Ryan, Ava Rice, Roisin O’Mahony, Elsie Peg Rogers, Aoife Barrett, Aisling Casey, Cara Gannon, Sorcha Casey, Caoilinn O’Brien, Siena Lucey, Aoife Hartnett, Chloe Quillinan, Grace Savage, Shania McCarthy, Caoimhe Fernane, Jessie Grealish, Priya O Donovan, Eve Broderick

Na Gaeil U14 Ladies V Finuge/St. Senans Div 3 County League

We played on Thursday evening in wet windy conditions in Mountcoal. We started well, playing with the wind. We got an early point from Muire. Siena and Freya scored a point apiece with a goal from Sarah.

Finuge/St Senans scored a couple of points to stay in contention. As we were coming to the end of the 1st half, the heavens opened and all players on the field got saturated.

We went in at half time with a 5 point lead. Finuge/St Senans came out in the 2nd half scoring 3 quick goals and a point to leave us trailing by 5 points. They scored another 3 points. They dominated the play for the next 10 minutes. We pulled it back to 5 points with a goal from Sarah with 10mins to play.

At this stage our backs Megan, Kayleigh Murphy, Aoife and Winnie got control to stop them running through. Now with Eimer, Cara and Emma Dewey able to support our midfield we started to control the game again.

Sarah scored another goal to leave us 2 points down but we finished the stronger with points from Kayleigh Costello, Siena, Muire and Ciara after some good runs from Jessica and Emma Savage. Caoilinn found the net only for it to be given as a square ball. It was a great finish to a tough game as we won by 3 points in the end.

Team: Winnie Burke, Megan Fernane, Kayleigh Murphy, Eimer O’Sullivan, Sarah Barrett, Freya O’Connor, Muire Kingston, Kayleigh Costello, Emma Dewey, Siena Lucey, Jessica Harrington, Caoilinn O’Brien, Aoife Barrett, Emma Savage, Ciara Rath, Cara Grealish.
