U16 Div 2 Co. Champions    Na Gaeil U16 dreams were realized in a windy Austin Stacks Park last Wednesday evening.

This group of players began preparations for this game last December when at a team meeting the Management of Liam Goggin, Billy O’Brien and Tim Lynch lay down the marker that the year would not be considered successful unless a Co League title was achieved. Commitment was demanded and the training started.

Dylan Seymour put the team through their paces with graded gym sessions over the winter and in the spring the running started!! Intervals became the norm and we developed one of the fittest teams in the county.

We kept our focus and we had four wins out of five in the League stages with wins over Churchill, Firies, Dingle and Miltown Castlemaine. Incidentally, we never won the toss including in the Final!!

We reached the final as table toppers and were treated to a fantastic game of football by this wonderful group of players in Austin Stack Park last Wednesday evening. Firies were a very difficult team to break down.

Their point scoring and man marking was excellent. There was a great sense of occasion with a large vocal support for both teams .We started proceedings with the national anthem and soon got down to business on a perfect pitch thanks to the Co. Board  staff .

Firies started the stronger, having won the toss and playing with the wind and went into an early lead.

We took time to settle and found it difficult to put our stamp on the game. Firies certainly had their homework done and disrupted our Kick outs and looked sharper in the early exchanges.

Ruari O’Sullivan ensured we were not further behind doing some great work at full back. We went to the dressing rooms five points down but our heads were still up and we knew we had been in this position before.

We had a team talk at half time, made a few switches and suddenly we were on top. Goals from Jack Sheehan and Darragh Reen and some wonderful free taking from Matthew Burke and great link up play from Tomás O hAiniféin, Liam Rice, Jack Bourke, Jack O Brien and Tom Walsh earlier in the game put us out of reach in a thrilling encounter. Shane Daly as usual was a giant in Goals and is improving with every game.

Corner backs Jimi O’Súileabháin and Mikey Clifford intercepted balls with Jimi doing some of his customary breaks forward to supply the forwards. Adam Burke showed some great form and indeed this was his best performance of the year.

Enda O’Connor and Basit Oyebanji worked tirelessly to disrupt an excellent Firies attack and kept the scores from the Firies half forward line to a minimum.

Tadhg Lynch and Seamus Harty won some great ball around the middle and supplied the forwards with accurate well-placed ball ensuring many scoring opportunities. Daire Doyle O Brien and Cian Devine came on and were an integral part of this memorable evening. Thanks to Liam Óg Kingston, Jamie Fitzgerald, Tadhg Reen and Graham Sheehy who were our U14 members of this exceptional panel.

Tadhg Lynch accepted the trophy from Reggie Griffin and the celebrations started. We travelled in convoy to Killeen and were treated to a hero’s welcome. Thanks to Sean and staff for the food.

Thanks to all who supported us on the night and indeed throughout the year. The future for Na Gaeil is bright. Congratulations to all involved.

Final score Na Gaeil 4-15 Firies 1-18.

U13    The U13s had their first outing of the season against St. Patrick’s Blennerville on Thursday Aug 17th in Round 1 of the Town League.  The match was played in Blennerville and in very wet conditions. Na Gaeil played very well despite the conditions and ran out winners on a score line of Na Gaeil 2-11, St. Patrick’s 1-6.

Our next outing was the Rose Cup blitz which took place on Saturday last, Aug 19th. The competition took place in Killeen and at Healy Park, Ballyrickard. Na Gaeil won their group beating Kilcummin and Miltown/Castlemaine to set up a Cup semi final against Austin Stacks.

The boys played brilliantly and won the game by 10 points to set up a Cup final against Ardfert. The final wa played in Healy Park and in spite of their best efforts our boys lost a close game by 2 points on a score line of Ardfert 1-6, Na Gaeil 0-7. Congratulations to Ardfert. The Na Gaeil boys can hold their heads up high. To get to the final was a fantastic achievement.

Well done to the players and mentors. A special word of appreciation to all of the volunteers who helped in the hosting of this event, from staffing the clubhouse, to supplying food and drink, to setting up the pitches.

U12    Our U12’s resumed competitive games on Wednesday Aug 16th with a match away to Laune Rangers in Division 4 of the Central Region. The game was played in ideal conditions and the players gave it their all. Na Gaeil won the match 3-13 to 3-7. Well done to all the players. Our next game is against St. Patrick’s, Blennerville on Monday 21st Aug at home. Training will continue on Thursday evenings at 6.30pm.

U10    Training on Thursday at 6.30pm as usual. We plan to travel to Abbeyfeale next Sunday to play Fr. Casey’s in a challenge game. Please remember that it’s essential that every player wears their mouth guard at all training sessions and games.

Well Done    Well done to Jack Barry who played a great game for Kerry against Mayo in Croke Park on Sunday when introduced at half time. The game ended all square so Kerry have it all to do again next Saturday in the replay.

Congrats also to Diarmuid O’Connor and Ryan O’Neill who were on the Kerry minor team that defeated Cavan in the All Ireland semi final also in Croke Park on Sunday. Both players can now look forward to the All Ireland Final on September 17th.

Na Gaeil Ladies    Na Gaeil v Listowel Emmets, Ladies North Kerry League Div 2

We played at home on Monday evening in Killeen. We started brightly with a point each from Sarah, Jessica and Siena. Caoilinn set up Muire who scored a goal before adding another couple of points.

With Megan, Kayleigh Murphy and Kelsey in the full back line and Emma, Eimer and Cara Grealish in front of them, they all defended superbly in the 1st half conceding just 1 point. Listowel came out firing in the 2nd half scoring 3 quick goals but that was to be their last score with Aisling coming into the back line and helping out the defence.

Sarah and Freya took control of midfield and we started to dominate the game again with a point from Wiktoria and Muire, Ciara scored another couple of points before goals from Sarah, Freya and Jessica. Aoife and Sorcha came into forward line and helped Winnie score the last 2 points of the game. Next game away to Finuge/St Senans

Team: Winnie Burke, Megan Fernane, Kayleigh Murphy, Kelsey O’Mahony, Emma Dewey, Eimer O’Sullivan, Cara Grealish, Sarah Barrett, Freya O’Connor, Muire Kingston, Wiktoria Kania, Ciara Rath, Caoilinn O’Brien, Jessica Harrington, Siena Lucey, Aoife Barrett, Sorcha Casey, Aishling Casey

Na Gaeil V Corca Dhuibhne, Ladies Co. League Div. 2

We played in Killeen on Friday evening in a very competive game. We started well with a great goal from Nora and a point from Meagan. Corca came back at us scoring 2.01. Only for Aine making another 2 great saves we would have been down by more. But Susan, Sheilah and Eimear got to grips with their runners and we finished the 1st half strongly with points from Ayesha, Eilis and 2 from Sibeal.

We were very slow starting the 2nd half and Corca Dhuibhne were moving the ball quickly and it took us a bit of time to try and cope with the wind. They scored a quick 3.02 before Muireann, Mary and Kate Anne took control of the half back line.

Aimee and Martina came into defence with Freya going into the forward line. With Mags and Sibeal creating space in the forward line and Meabh seeing plenty of ball in the middle, Ayesha and Nora started to dominate the game now and with points from Meagan and Eilis we got going.

Freya won a couple of frees for us from some of her runs which Meagan converted. Eilis got us another couple of points before Erika scored our only goal of the 2nd half despite the numerous goal scoring chances we had. But in the end we lost by a few points due the good start to the 2nd half that Corca Dhuibhne had.

Team: Aine O’Sullivan, Muireann Moriarty, Susan Fernane, Sheilah O’Riordan, Eimear Nolan, Martina O’Connor, Mary O’Connell, Kate Anne O’Connor, Nora O’Connell, Ayesha Roche, Meagan Sheehy, Meabh Barry, Erika O’Sullivan, Mags Maunsell, Eilis O’Connor, Sibeal Casey, Aimee Kerins, Freya O’Connor.

Best of Luck to Laura Fitzgerald, Jadyn Lucey and the Kerry Team and Management as they play Dublin in the Ladies All Ireland Semi Final in Semple Stadium in Thurles, Co Tipperary.
