U13    Our U13’s competed in the U13 Tralee Town Championship Final on Sunday last. Having defeated Ardfert in their semi-final last week, Na Gaeil faced Austin Stacks in the final.

The match was played in Connolly Park in breezy conditions, with the weather turning wet near the end of the game.

The match commenced at 5pm, with Na Gaeil going immediately on the attack. However three successive wides were punished when Austin Stacks scored a well worked goal. Na Gaeil knuckled down and fought back slowly. With all players putting their shoulder to the wheel, they turned the game around and went in at half time with an impressive lead of 7 points. The score at halftime was Na Gaeil 1-9, Austin Stacks 1-2. The second half brought out the character in the players. Austin Stacks came back strongly at Na Gaeil, as could be expected. However, the boys soaked up a lot of pressure and worked for each other. At the final whistle Na Gaeil were ahead by 4 points on a score of Na Gaeil 1-11, Austin Stacks 1-7. Congratulations to both teams on a great display.

The squad consisted of Aaron Delahunty, Jack Dakissia, Seamus O’ Neill, Cian O’ Neill, Jack Doyle, Edward Sheehy, Sean O’Connor, Kieran O’Connor, Cillian Murphy, Sean O’ Connell, Nathan Rogers, Kian Sheehan, Lee Buckley, Shane Kelly, Rory Reen, Dylan McEneaney, Conor Costello, Peter Doyle, Tomás Walsh, Rúairí O hAiniféin, Kevin O’ Donoghue, Sean Barrett, Peadar Burke, Jack Costello.

This concludes a successful season for Na Gaeil U12’s & U13’s, having won the U12 Central Region Div. 4 League, the U12 St. Brendan’s Blitz, the U13 Lee Strand Shield, the U13 Tralee Town League Div. 2 and the Tralee Town Championship. Many thanks to the players and their parents. Keep an eye on the notes and texts, as we intend to host an awards night to acknowledge the players achievements for the season.

Na Gaeil Ladies        Na Gaeil v Austin Stacks, U14 Ladies Div 1 Town League

We played away to Austin Stacks on Tuesday evening in Connolly Park. It was a perfect evening for a game with no wind or rain.

We got off to a great start with a point from Freya (who never stopped running) after Kelsey had won her tussle on the bye line. Sarah followed with another point with the help of Emma Dewey and Kayleigh Costello.

We were very competitive in all our positions and with Wiktoria winning another ball and setting up Sarah to go on a long run and to score our 1st goal of the game. Muire followed this up with another goal after Emma Savage and Jessica combined to set her up.

Eimer made a great run out from the backs, meandering her way through Stacks defenders, finding Sarah who found the back of the net again. Stacks scored a point in the 1st half before Sarah pointed a free over the bar to finish the half. Stacks came out a different team in the 2nd half scoring an early 2.01 to get themselves back in the game but we were holding possession well with Ciara making another good run and scoring a fine point from distance.

Caoilinn and Sarah got another point apiece after some great work from Aoife and Elizabeth. The rest of the 2nd half was about our defending with Grace and Emma Dewey coming into the defence to aid the impressive duo Megan and Kayleigh Murphy in the full back line.

Cara and Eimer were beating their players to the ball each time and their distribution of the ball was outstanding. Winnie made a couple of great saves when Stacks got through late in the game but her kick outs found our players each time. We conceded 2 more points but held on to win by 4 points after a great game of football.
