Seniors    Na Gaeil entertained Piarsaigh na Dromoda in the first round of the Division 2 County League in Killeen on Sunday. Na Gaeil started brightly and raced into a four point lead after five minutes, Dara Devine scoring two and one each coming from Seamie O’Neill and Darragh Carmody.

But Dromid found their rythm and fired over the next four points without reply, the scores coming from Niall O’Sé, Chris Farrely, Graham O’Sullivan and Shane O’Connor to level up matters after 10 minutes.

Na Gaeil put a great move together and corner back Ryan O’Neill was on hand to finish the ball to the back of the net for a great goal. Dara Devine fisted over another point for Na Gaeil and Dylan O’Donoghue duly obliged for Dromid. Jamie Lowham, Kieran Donovan and Diarmuid O’Connor scored another three points for the home team to put them 6 ahead with 18 minutes gone.

But Dylan O’Donoghue and Aidan Shine O’Sullivan pulled two back for Dromid before Diarmaid O’Connor and Darragh Carmody again scored for Na Gaeil.

Dromid scored the last three points before the interval with two coming from Graham O’Sullivan and a pointed free from Chris Farrely to leave Na Gaeil three ahead at the interval. Half time score: Na Gaeil 1-10; Dromid 0-10.

Dromid had a dream start to the 2nd half with Niall O Sé scoring a great goal in the first minute to level the game. They followed up quickly with a point from Chris Farrely to go one ahead for the first time in the game.

Timmy Culloty made a point blank save to deny Dromid another goal. Jamie Lowham and Niall O’Sé exchanged points. Diarmuid O’Connor had another Na Gaeil point and then a Graham O’Sullivan point and a converted free from Niall O Sé put Dromid two ahead with 18 minutes of the half gone.

Na Gaeil settled and fired over the next three points, two from the impressive Diarmuid O’Connor and one from a Darragh Carmody free to go ahead again on 20 minutes.

Chris Farrelly pointed a free again to level the game once more on 25 minutes.  Nearing the final whistle it looked like the game would end in a draw. But with Na Gaeil’s last attack they were awarded a 45.

Darragh Carmody coolly stepped up to slot it over the bar with the last kick of the game to ensure that Na Gaeil had a one point win. Final score: Na Gaeil 1-16; Dromid 1-15.

This was a very entertaining game of football with both sides giving it their all. Na Gaeil will be delighted to come away with the points in their first game in Division 2. There were solid displays in defence from Ryan O’Neill and Eoin Doody.

Stefan Okunbor and Eoin O’Neill held their own at midfield while Diarmuid O’Connor really impressed up front along with Darragh Carmody and Dara Devine.

Team: Timmy Culloty, Ryan O’Neill(1-0), Kieran Dineen, Eoghain Sheehy, Kieran Donovan(0-01), Eoin Doody Colm Lyons, Eoin O’Neill, Stefan Okunbor, Eoin Walsh, Diarmuid O’Connor(0-05), Seamie O’Neill(0-01), Darragh Carmody(0-04), Jamie Lowham(0-02), Dara Devine(0-03). Subs: Fergal Barry for Eoghain Sheehy; Dan O’Connor for Jamie Lowham; Ian McCarthy for Eoin Walsh; Niall O’Mahony for Eoin O’Neill; Dan Goggin for Seamie O’Neill.

Na Gaeil Ladies    County League Division 1. We travelled to South Kerry on Sunday morning to play Senior County Champions Southern Gaels in our 1st game of the Season in Div 1 after winning the Div 2 Title.

Weather was bright and sunny but the pitch was poor and heavy. Gaels got the 1st point from a free. We responded with a point each from Nora and Mary. Nóra made a drive from midfield after some great work from Deirdre and Méabh and scored a goal.

Susan, Clodagh and Kate Anne were dominating our half of the field as Gaels were struggling to get through us and this was was allowing Eilis and Deirdre to support midfield. Jadyn and Carla combined well to release Mary to score a goal. Meabh, Jadyn and Meagan had chances but hit the posts and were saved by the keeper as we were holding possession well.

Gaels scored another point from a free but from the kick out found Eilís and she moved the ball to Kate Anne and found Sibéal who with a quick twist and a turn, blasted the ball past the keeper. Sarah came into the game and eased into the half back line. Gaels scored 2 points from 2 free kicks at the start of the 2nd half. But we got going again with points from midfielders Nora and Mary. Mags and Sibéal played in Meagan for a point.

Gaels scored 2 quick goals but we replied with Jadyn scoring another point before Meabh and Eilís got 1 apiece. Caragh and Freya came on with fresh legs as we started to dominate their players in defence.

Sibéal scored 2 more points before Martina found Sibéal again in space and she placed another ball beyond their keeper. Defensively we were strong as Gaels scored no point from play. Laura’s kick outs always found one of our players and her distribution of the ball was outstanding all day. It was an outstanding result as this was our 1st win over Southern Gaels at Senior Level. Final Score 4.10 to 2.04

One Murder & a Christening    We’re delighted to announce that, due to popular demand, the hugely successful comedy/drama, One Murder and a Christening, penned by Mary Quirke, will make a welcome return to the stage.

The date for this extra performance is Thursday the 29th March and the venue, as before, is the club hall.To say that the previous two shows, on the 23rd and 24th February, were well received is an understatement of gargantuan proportions! People left the hall both nights with pains in their faces and sides from laughing so hard, and the recurring comment afterwards was that they would come again to see it if they could and recommend it highly to friends and family.

On that basis then, a decision was reached to go with a re-run. Obviously, this is a great club event, but we’d like to emphasise that it’s an occasion to be enjoyed by all, and you certainly don’t have to be affiliated to Na Gaeil to come along and savour the hilarity of this eventful comedy!! Tickets for this over 18’s only show are now on sale in the club but be quick, because if the last performances are anything to go by, they won’t be there long!!

Clothes Collection    There is now a Clothes Collection Bin situated in Na Gaeil car park. If anyone has bags of old clothes to dispose of please drop them in the bin. If the bin is full, they can be dropped into the clubhouse. It would be much appreciated.
