Seniors    Na Gaeil travelled to Kenmare on Saturday evening to take on the home team in Round 9 of the Senior County League.

Kenmare put the first three points on the board courtesy of two Paul O’Connor frees and a point from wing back Shane O’Sullivan. Eoin O’Neill opened the scoring for Na Gaeil on eight minutes. Paul O’Connor pointed another Kenmare free on eleven minutes and they could have been further ahead but a point blank save from brave Na Gaeil keeper Timmy Culloty.

Kenmare fired over the next three points to go 6 points clear after 23 minutes with Timmy Culloty making another fine save to deny them a goal. Jamie Lowham scored a point on 29 minutes followed by a Dara Devine pointed free to leave the half time score: Na Gaeil: 0-03; Kenmare: 0-08.

Seamie O’Neill scored the first point of the 2nd half but this score was quickly followed by points from Kenmare’s Paul O’Connor and Kevin O’Sullivan to widen the gap to 6 points once again.

Andrew Barry scored a good point eight minutes into the half followed by another Dara Devine pointed free.  Paul O’Connor pointed a Kenmare free on 15 minutes but Na Gaeil’s Paul Daly and Seamie O’Neill got the next two scores to make it a three point game with ten minutes left to play.

A great move by Na Gaeil saw Dara Devine blast the ball to the Kenmare net for the all important goal. With the game now level Na Gaeil  played with renewed vigour and Dara Devine pointed a free on 25 minutes to put Na Gaeil ahead for the first time in the game. But this was followed by a point from Kenmare’s Joe Doyle.

The impressive Kieran O’Donovan pointed for Na Gaeil and young Rory Murphy fired over on 29 minutes to leave Na Gaeil two points ahead with time almost up. But Kenmare pulled back a point on 30 minutes to ensure a tense ending.

Na Gaeil had to do some stout defending in the 7 minutes of injury time played to hold out for a one point win and that they did. Final score: Na Gaeil: 1-11; Kenmare Shamrocks: 0-13. Hats off to Na Gaeil for sticking to their task even though things were going against them for long periods of the game. They never gave up and have now earned two more valuable league points.

Well Done    Congrats to the Kerry Ladies and all the Na Gaeil personnel involved, on defeating Tipperary in the TG4 All Ireland Football Qualifier at the weekend. Laura Fitzgerald was between the posts with Deirdre Kearney playing at wing back. Meabh Barry and Jaydn Lucey were among the substitutes and the management team was Eddie Sheehy, Liam Culloty, Mike Barrett and Janice McHugh.

Best of Luck    We wish Jack Barry and the Kerry Team the best of luck in their clash with Monaghan in Clones in the Super 8’s on Sunday. Unfortunately they hadn’t a great day against Galway at headquarters on Sunday but hopefully they can turn their season around next Sunday.

Kerry U 20’s    Unfortunately Kerry went down to Kildare on Saturday at the Gaelic grounds in Limerick. They were unlucky in the end not to snatch a draw.

Na Gaeil players Diarmuid O’Connor and Stefan Okunbor will be disappointed with the defeat but they can hold their heads high as they have had an outstanding season to date. They can look forward to many great days ahead and no doubt will represent both their club and county with distinction in the future.
