U14    As the season draws to a close, we hosted Ardfert in the final of the St. Brendan’s U14 Championship.

Na Gaeil started well getting three points in a row from Edward Sheehy, Jack Doyle and Sean O’Connor before Ardfert scored a goal in the 14th minute. This was immediately followed by another goal which saw us trailing by 4 points as we entered the 2nd quarter. With the aid of a stiff breeze we steadied the ship with a goal from Sean O’Connell and points from Sean O’Connor.

On 22 minutes, good work by Shane Kelly resulted in the concession of a 45 by Ardfert. Kieran O’Connor took the 45 which ended up flying directly into the back of the net. Our forwards in Batty Coffey, Lee Buckley and Shane Kelly maintained the pressure, making it difficult for Ardfert to build play from the back.

When Ardfert did gain momentum they were well marshalled by our backs – Seamus O’Neill, Rory Reen, Jack Doyle, Edward Sheehy, Jack Dakissia, Sean Barrett and Cian O’Neill. On 25 minutes, Sean O’Connell scored another goal. Points from Nathan Rogers, Sean O’Connell and Sean O’Connor saw us lead at halftime on a score line of Na Gaeil: 3-9 to Ardfert: 2-1.

Ardfert began the second half in blistering fashion scoring 3 points in a row before a point from Batty Coffey got Na Gaeil going again.

This was followed by points from Lee Buckley and Cian Sheehan, assisted by Cillian Murphy. Ardfert pressed hard and sought a goal but goalkeeper Arran Delahunty was equal to the task, keeping several shots out.

A goal from Sean O’Connor in the 55th minute settled the game and Na Gaeil ran out winners 4-13 to Ardfert’s 2-11. Our captain, Kieran O’Connor received the trophy from chairman of the St. Brendan’s Board, Mike Moriarty.
