Na Gaeil Senior Ladies Football Team that defeated Waterford Champions Stradbally in the Munster Intermediate Quarter Final In Mallow on Sunday.

Na Gaeil Ladies    Munster Intermediate Championship Quarter Final: We played in Mallow on Sunday against Waterford Champions Stradbally in a closely fought game. We got off to a great start with a point from Meabh and a goal from Megan.

Stradbally replied with two points before Megan and Meabh scored a point each. Stradbally scored another two points before Nora fired in a goal. Stradbally scored a point just before halftime to leave the score at 2.03 to 0.05 at the interval. Meagan started the 2nd half with a well taken point but Stradbally replied with two more points.

Brid made a run from deep and placed the ball over the bar. Stradbally were coming at us hard now but our defence stood strong with Laura very cool in goals and her kickouts were excellent. Stradbally scored two further points from frees before Nora found Marie with a super cross field ball and Marie palmed it into the back of the net. Stradbally came again and scored two more points before Marie got the last point of the game to give us victory on a scoreline of 3.06 to 0.11.

U16 Ladies    Following a number of weeks without a game the girls took to the pitch last Thursday when we travelled to Ballymac to play our first North Kerry league Division 1 game of the season.

Conditions were perfect but at this time of the year daylight is the concern.  Having played Ballymac earlier in the season we knew we would be facing a stiff challenge.  Muire captained our girls on the night and led by example when she opened  the scoring with a couple of lovely points.  The Na Gaeil girls were dominating play in the first half and had the game well under control.  We went in at half time with a six point lead.  As is the way with football, it can be a game of two halves.

Ballymac came out in the second half with a more determined attitude and began to put their mark on the game and pulled off some excellent scores including an early goal that closed the game.

The girls in green kept picking off their own scores to stay in front but mid way through the second half the home team got two quick goals, one from play and one from a penalty. This really added to the tension.

Our girls responded well with a couple of more points and fought hard to maintain their lead.  Ballymac had their chances to claim the game with two goal chances near the end but the ball went over for points on both occasions.  At the final whistle our girls ended up two points to the good. Final score: Ballymac: 3 – 07; Na Gaeil: 2  – 12.

County Championship Quarter Final    After a poor start against Kerins O’Rahillys in Austin Stack Park on Saturday evening St. Brendan’s made a great fight back in the 2nd half and were only a point behind coming into the closing stages of the game.

With a bit of luck in the last few minutes the result might have been different. Well done to Kerins o’Rahillys on their victory and we wish them all the best in the semi final against Dr. Crokes in two weeks time.
