Na Gaeil Ladies team who won the Munster Intermediate Final at the weekend.

Na Gaeil Ladies: Munster Champions   Na Gaeil played Aghada in the Munster Intermediate Final in Mallow on Saturday in very wet conditions but the weather did not affect the pitch which was in great condition. Aghada scored the 1st point of the game with a well taken free.

We took a bit to settle ourselves down. But after ten minutes Meagan Sheehy had two frees popped over the bar after Megan O’Connor and Ayesha Roche were fouled as they made great runs towards goal. Maria Quirke and Meabh Barry both scored a point apiece as we started to control the game.

Mary and Nora O’Connell were winning their midfield duel which ensured a good supply of ball to the forwards.

Three more points from Meagan Sheehy and one from Megan O’Connor were scored before the end of the first half with Aghada scoring one more point on the stroke of half time due to being well curtailed by our outstanding defence. Half time score: Na Gaeil: 0.08; Aghada: 0.02.

Aghada started the second half brightly with another free from Emma Farmer but Meagan Sheehy replied with a point after some good work from Jadyn Lucey.

Ayesha Roche then found Megan O’Connor with a super pass. Megan dinked and found the back of the net for a super goal to keep us well on top.

We were well in control with Kate Anne O’Connor, Susan Fernane and Bríd O’Connor working well together in defence. Sarah Barrett, Deirdre Kearney and the very impressive Eilís O’Connor were blocking everything that came their way.

Sibéal Casey came on and narrowly missed a score and Clodagh McHugh came into the side and set up Mary O’Connell for a great point. Aghada’s Emma Farmer scored two more frees before Meagan Sheehy who was unerring from frees all day replied from play with the last point of the game to help Na Gaeil win the Munster Final on a scoreline of Na Gaeil:1.11; Aghada: 0.05.

Our defence on the day where goalkeeper Laura Fitzgerald  marshalled them well from her goal line. Her kick outs were top notch all afternoon always finding a teammate.

We conceded no score from play which is a great testament to our defence but it was our overall team play and support that helped us defeat a strong Aghada side who won last year’s Junior All Ireland Championship.

There was great jubilation when Captain Susan Fernane accepted the Cup from Munster Chairman Anthony O’Brien with Eilis O’Connor deservedly winning the Player of the Match for her outstanding performance at no. 5.

A huge thanks to all our supporters that travelled. It was a great day to be in Mallow and we are now looking forward to an All Ireland Quarter Final in Britain on the weekend of the 3/4 November.

Congratulations to the girls on a complete team performance and to their management team of Eddie Sheehy, Troy O’Connell, Janice McHugh, Mike Barrett, Paul Cunningham and Philip Dewey.
