Na Gaeil’s 40th Anniversary    All roads lead to Na Gaeil this Saturday night November 10th for the club’s 40th Anniversary Celebrations. Proceedings kick off at 7.30pm with a sit down meal and there will be live music long into the night. It’s an occasion not to be missed. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Na Gaeil Ladies   All Ireland Intermediate Quarter Final v Dunedin Connolly’s.  On Friday morning, we began our journey to Edinburgh, leaving Tralee at 3.00am. After the long trek, we arrived in Edinburgh on Friday evening at 7.00pm for our game on Saturday morning.

With an orange weather warning in place for eastern Scotland for Saturday, we played in the Dunedin Connolly’s home pitch. The rain stayed away for the game but the strong swirling wind remained. Dunedin won the toss and played with the wind for the 1st half.

They got off to a great start with two early points using the wind wisely. Dunedin scored another two points as we were struggling with the weather conditions but we replied with a point from Megan. Ayesha won us a free which Meagan slotted over the bar again.

We were starting to get ourselves back into the game but again Dunedin struck as they launched a couple of long balls into the full forward line and won a couple of free kicks. We were still working the ball up the field and scored another point before Dunedin scored again with the aid of the swirling strong wind.

As halftime approached, Mary found Maria in space near the edge of the box. Maria dinked and passed it across the box for Megan to fist the ball into the back of the net. We went in at half time down by three points.

Dunedin started the 2nd half brighter adding two more points but we started to get control of the game and started working the ball forward but still struggled with the wind pulling the ball left and right of the posts.

We were finding it tough to judge the direction of our kicks. Then against the run of play, a high ball into box caused havoc as a Dunedin player knocked Laura to the ground and the same player found the back of the net.

Again we went forward scoring another point. But then another high ball from Dunedin which seemed to be going over the bar but dropped out of the sky quickly which Laura did well to palm but a Dunedin player who seemed to be in the square palmed into the back of the net. We attacked again, scoring another point.

At this stage we had a player harshly yellow carded and we were down to 14 players. But we kept going, clawing back the deficit, scoring five points in six minutes. But unfortunately time was running out.

We got ourselves within three points when we had a shot on goal and it was deflected over for a point by their keeper. Then from the resulting kick out, the referee blew the whistle and our campaign had ended. The effort, character and commitment that these girls have shown has been immense all through the year.

It has been a great journey that finished sadly for us but we can hold our heads up proudly as we represented our Club, County and Province with great integrity and sportsmanship.

We’d like to thank Dunedin Connolly’s for their hospitality after the game and wish them the very best of luck. It has been a great year with winning County and Munster Championship and the Div 1 County League as well.

We now have the Mary Jo Curran A Final to be played against Corca Dhuibhne on Saturday evening. The journey has been amazing for everyone involved and we would like to thank everyone that made it possible.

Thanks to Na Gaeil, our sponsors and those that generously donated to help fund our trip to Scotland. Thanks to all our players and management, thanks to our supporters and especially to those that travelled. We also like to wish Deirdre Kearney all the best and safe travelling.
