NA GAEIL SENIOR LADIES: Na Gaeil  v Dr Crokes, Senior Ladies County League Div 2 , 2nd Round. We played at home on Sunday morning against Dr Crokes, conditions were good with a slight breeze coming from the town end.

We played into the wind for the 1st half, with Laura Fitzgerald out injured, Niamh started in goals for the second game in a row. Our defence of Sarah and Deirdre ptotected the goals, making sure that no one came within the 21.

Shona, Brid and Kim were very strong on the half back line. Marie and Eilis dominated midfield with our half forwards Nora, Eimear and Meabh winning loads of ball. Fiona and Ayesha who were causing all kinds of havoc with their runs. Ayesha got our 1st point along with Nora,Brid, Eilis, Meabh and Marie getting a few more points from some great work and passing. We started the 2nd half with the wind, Jadyn and Meagan came into the forwards, with Muireann coming into the backs and making some fine tackles.

Ayesha started the second half the same way she finished the 1st. Grabbing a couple of early points along with another point from Marie. Ayesha was the quickest onto a loose ball in the box and burying it into the back of the net.

Meagan and Nora got another couple of points each before Ayesha found Meagan with a great ball near the edge of the box, who then fired it low into the bottom corner.

Our defenders, when called upon were very strong along with some fine team work from our forward play. We still had a good few wides which need to be worked on but despite this, we still managed to score 2.15, with our backs keeping Crokes scores down to 3 points. There will be training in Na Gaeil on Wednesday evening at 6.00.

NA GAEIL GIRLS U12: Béal 4 – 5 Na Gaeil 3 – 3 .Though Na Gaeil lost this game they will be heartened by a spirited team performance and some outstanding personal displays. It was a closely fought match notable for the never say die attitude of both teams.

Na Gaeil came under some early pressure but defenders Clodagh, Aoife and Emma fought hard and the ball was finally cleared by Emma Dewey.

Na Gaeil then took an early lead with a well taken free kick from Freya after some great play from Siena.

Ailbhe and Sarah battled for everything in the middle of the park, with Sarah bravely blocking the ball on a number of occasions while Muire and Freya showed great determination and skill on the ball.

Béal had some outstanding players of their own however and scored two early goals despite Winnie Burke having a brilliant game in goal. The game ebbed and flowed, na Gaeil staying in touch with scores from Kayleigh and Siena.

At half time Béal led 2 – 2 to 0 – 3. Soon after play resumed Emma scored a great goal after Ailbhe and Muire had linked superbly. Béal were defending well under pressure but could not keep out Siena who rattled home a tremendous goal to give na Gaeil the lead.

This was a spirited performance from the Béal girls but theywere kept out by some great defensive play from Síle Lynch who cleared the ball a number of times and from Aoife who fought for everything at corner back.

Clodagh made some some tremendous clearances from defence enabling Sarah, Ailbhe, Siena, Emma and Freya to link up with the forwards.

Winnie Burke deserves a special mention for her skill and commitment in what everyone agreed was a brilliant exhibition of goalkeeping skill. All na Gaeil’s best efforts however could not prevent Béal from scoring two second half goals.

Megan in particular was brave and resolute in defence, never flinching from a challenge, while Elizabeth also fought bravely.

Na Gaeil were always dangerous and Kayleigh capped a great personal performance with a wonderful goal to ensure that the result would be in doubt right up to the last. The na Gaeil mentors were delighted with the all the girls and will feel that with this group they can look forward to some great victories in the future.

Well done girls! All players must be registered to be eligible to play in competition and for insurance purposes.Thank you for your co-operation and your continued support.
