Congratulations to Na Gaeil’s Nora O’Connell and Jadyn Lucey who were on the Kerry Ladies team that defeated Limerick in the U21 Shield Munster Final on Friday night.

Seniors    Na Gaeil played Kilcummin in Round 8 of the County League on Saturday evening in Killeen in very warm conditions.

Na Gaeil got off to a good start with full forward Jamie Lowham crashing a ball to the back of the Kilcummin net in the first minute of the game. Kilcummin’s Noel Duggan pointed a free in the fourth minute to get them off the mark followed by a pointed free from Dara Devine for Na Gaeil. Kilcummin scored the next three points to level matters with twenty minutes gone.

Kieran O’Donovan and Diarmaid Herlihy replied with points for Na Gaeil before Kilcummin’s Oscar O’Connor sneaked in for a goal. Ian McCarthy fired over a good point for Na Gaeil on the stroke of half time to reduce the margin to one point at the interval on a score line of Na Gaeil: 1-04; Kilcummin: 1-05.

Dara Devine pointed a free at the start of the 2nd half but this was cancelled out by a point from James Nagle for Kilcummin.

The hard working Jamie Lowham was fouled in the square in the sixth minute and referee Eddie Barrett had no hesitation in awarding Na Gaeil a penalty which Dara Devine duly dispatched to the bottom right hand corner of the net sending Brendan Kealy the wrong way. This was followed by a great point from Jamie Lowham to put Na Gaeil three in front. Kilcummin responded by scoring four points on the trot to go ahead by the minimum with 20 minutes gone in the half.

Diarmaid Herlihy pulled one back for Na Gaeil to level matters again. Kilcummin fired over the next two points and looked set to close out the game but Na Gaeil never gave up. They were awarded a free out on the wing which was lobbed into the square.

Paul Daly got possession and off loaded it to the in rushing Eoin O’Neill who blasted it to the back of the Kilcummin net to go one ahead yet again with 30 minutes gone. Kilcummin broke down the field and Noel Duggan fired over to make it all square in injury time.

Na Gaeil won their kick out and launched one last attack up the field which yielded a 35m free out on the right wing.

As this favoured a left legged kicker captain Eoin Doody stepped up and cooly slotted it over the bar for the winning point as referee Eddie Barrett blew the full time whistle straight after the kick out. This was a good display by the Na Gaeil squad with everyone working hard all over the field.

Eamon O’Neill’s kick outs were very effective and all six backs defended tigerishly .Midfield held their own over the hour and the forwards worked their socks of up front.
