St. Brendan’s Championship    Na Gaeil defeated Churchill in the St. Brendan’s Board Championship semi final on Sunday morning in Churchill on a score line of 1-11 to 1-07.

Awards Night    Na Gaeil U12, U13 and U14 footballers gathered in the clubhouse on Sunday evening last for their end of year awards night.

The hall was packed to capacity with players, mentors and parents for the occasion. Present also were the seven players from the club that represented Kerry in Croke Park during the year and who are wonderful role models for all our young players.

Chairperson of Na Gaeil Coiste na nÓg Colm Ó Súllleabháin addressed the large gathering. He thanked the players and mentors for their dedication and commitment during the year and congratulated them on their success in the various competitions.

He also thanked the parents for their continuous support and co-operation throughout the season. Last but not least he wished the Na Gaeil Senior Team the very best of luck next weekend when they take on Kilshannig in the Munster Premier Junior Quarter Final in what will be a historic day for the club.

Everyone sat down to a delicious meal in the hall which was prepared and served up by our wonderful women’s group. It was a great occasion and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone present. We extend a big thank you to our dedicated women who prepared the food and to Seán and Lorcan behind the bar.

Na Gaeil ladies team.

Na Gaeil Ladies    We played Finuge/St. Senans in our last game of the year in Na Gaeil on Sunday in the Diision 1 North Kerry League Final in wet and cold conditions. We got off to a great start with Eimer playing in Maria for the first goal quickly followed by a point from Megan. Finuge/ St. Senans quickly followed up with a goal and a point to level the game.

We replied with a point from Jadyn and two points from Sarah Cunningham but again Finuge/ St. Senans squeezed a goal to level the game after 11 minutes.

But our defence tightened up at this stage with Muireann, Clodagh McHugh and Kate Anne not letting another shot on goal for the rest of the remainder of the half. Freya, Sarah Barrett and Eilis were superb on the half back line as Finuge /St. Senans struggled to get out of their half and we took advantage with two points from Maria and six points from Sarah C.

With the work rate of Erika, Megan and Jadyn in the half forward putting pressure on their defence, Mary and Nora had control of the midfield, creating chances and defending stoutly. We had a healthy lead for the 2nd half. As the evening darkened, we started the 2nd half tightly but we had to make a couple of changes which helped Finuge /St. Senans to get three points on the board before our defence settled down again.

Muire came into the side and helped herself to a point after Allesandra set her up. Sarah scored another three points before we had to take her off with a slight injury. Siena came into the team for her senior debut and almost opened her account with a goal but was fouled as she was kicking the ball with Maria scoring the resulting free.

With a couple of minutes left on the clock, Finuge/ St. Senans scored a goal and a point but after a long 15 months out injured Caragh O’Neill came into the team and helped settle us down to finish off the year with a win on a score line of 1-20 to 3-06. Well done to everyone who has played and trained hard all year. This was another fine team performance despite missing a few players. We were able to add the North Kerry Div 1 Trophy to our Mary Jo A Trophy.
