NA GAEIL SENIOR: In the second last round of the county league Na Gaeil faced Ardfert away.

On a day when the pitch and conditions were perfect for football it was Na Gaeil who got off to the ideal start, after both teams had traded scores, with the visitors hitting Ardfert for 01-04 in a ten minute blitz, with the goal coming from Kieran O’Donovan after a sublime ball in from Ian McCarthy managed to find its way through the defence with Kieran on running to calmly finish from ten yards.

Na Gaeil keeper Tim Culloty made two fantastic saves during the first half limiting Ardfert to a further two scoters leaving it at half time, Ardfert 00-03: Na Gaeil 01-09.

Second half was a less open affair, with as expected a strong Ardfert fight back , with little between the sides both traded scores, with Na Gaeils coming from Dara Carmody, Andrew Barry Mike Collins and a second goal from Kieran O’Donovan, this time fisting the ball to the net after Diarmaid Herlihy had drilled the ball into the square from the end line.

Game finished Ardfert 01-06; Na Gaeil 02-14.

Team: Tim Culloty, Podge O’Sullivan, Kieran Dineen, Paul Daly, Dara Sheehy, Andrew Barry(01), Emmett Curran, Jack Barry, Dylan Seymour, Ian McCarthy(01), Kieran O’Donovan(02-02), Dara Carmody(07), Jamie Lowham, Diarmaid Herlihy(02), Mike Collins(01), Jack Carmody, Shane Carey, Dylan Brazil.

NA GAEIL JUNIORS: Our juniors play Gneeveguilla in the final of the McElligott cup this Sunday (Oct 11th).  The game is on in Castleisland Desmonds grounds at 1.30pm , please come along and support our lads.

NA GAEIL U10:We had an enjoyable training session at Na Gaeil on Thursday and Sunday last. No more Training on Thursdays evenings. Next Sunday Morning we play St Pats at Na Gaeil please be on the field for 10.45am

NA GAEIL SENIOR LADIES: NA GAEIL v Fermoy inter Ladies. We played in Rathcool on Saturday against Fermoy in perfect conditions.  Fermoy started the brighter scoring a couple of early points.

We gave ourselves a couple of chances but did not make them count. Fermoy attacked us again with pace and got themselves a goal.

We rallyed together and Maria got forward with the ball finding Susan in full forward, worked the ball to Jadyn who found Ayesha on the edge of the box and found the back of the net.

Marie , Jadyn and Sarah got our momentum going scoring a point each and we were just a point down but unfortunately Fermoy drove up the field and got another goal just before half time. We went in half time down by 4.

We came out in the 2nd half and gave it our all. Fermoy were a strong outfit with their No 11 Aishling Hutchins outstanding and on the day we had no luck where their keeper making some good saves, Jadyn hitting the post, Marie having another goal chance cleared off the line, the ball not falling kindly for us in front of goals.

But we never gave up to the end. We are a very young team and the experience of a Munster Semi Final will stand to them all.

We had a couple of injuries in the build up to the game so best wishes to Aine and Sarah Quigley and hopefully a quick recovery.

Thanks to all who helped on the day and especially to James and Siobhan who did the hot food and to Mary and Melissa with the sandwiches for in the club after we got back.

A special thanks to the team for all the hard work and commitment that they put in for the year in training and games.

Na Gaeil Ladies Senior Team 2015: Laura Fitzgerald, Niamh Moriarty, Brid O Connor, Kim Enright, Sarah Quigley, Deirdre Kearney, Riona Ni Cinneide (capt), EIlis O Connor, Marie Quirke, Meagan Sheehy, Ayesha Roche , Kate Feeney , Aine Kelliher, Jadyn Lucey, Kate Anne O Connor, Sarah Cunningham, Susan Fernane, Sinead Prendergast, Muireann Moriarty, Meadbh Horgan, Eimear Nolan, Caoimhe Hanafin, Clodagh Griffin, Rhian O Sullivan, Erika O Sullivan, Blaithnaid O Connor, Nora O Connell, Nessa Mc Garty, Aimee Kerins, Maura Adams, Ciara Gaynor, Jenny Moriarty.

NA GAEIL U14: We played Listowel last Thurs evening in the N. Kerry league at home.  It was a beautiful evening for football and we had a good turnout for the game.

Mary O’Connell was captain on the evening and was partnered by the hard working Clodagh O’Connor in mid field.

The game was very tight in the opening quarter with Na Gaeil edging into a 3 point to 1 lead.  Listowel’s fast breaks paid off when they edged in front with a goal in the second quarter.

Na Gaeil kept their focus and with some great team play saw the home side take the lead at half time with a goal from Mary. Like the first quarter there was little given away in the opening quarter of the second half with both sides exchanging points.

At this stage the girls in green were finding their groove and their passing and movement off the ball led to good opportunities for the inside forwards.

Between them Mary, Caragh, Abi, Clodagh, Laoise and Ciara scored 5 – 4 in the second half. This said, the defence were not idle by any means and there were great performances by all the backs in particular Ria, Dearbhla and Sarah who closed down a lot of the attacks. The match finished Na Gaeil 6-7 Listowel 2-4.

It is great to see some of the quieter girls growing in confidence and becoming integral members of the team.

We played Ballyduff at home on Sat evening in perfect conditions.  Unfortunately, Ballyduff could only field 11 which meant that our players could only get limited game time playing 11 aside.

Ciara captained the team on the day. All the players played really well and the teamwork and link play over the last few matches has really developed.

All the players deserve mention but special mention goes to Caragh ‘Hat-trick’ O’Neill who has developed a real poachers instinct.

The game finished on a scoreline of: Na Gaeil 7-6  Ballyduff 4-5.Remaining games- we will probably have a playoff match in the N. Kerry league and will have two games in the townboard competition with the first being a home game V Stacks, date/time to be confirmed.

NA GAEIL U8/10: Na Gaeil ladies U8 & U10’s have been busy with challenge games in the last few weeks.

We welcomed Abbeydorney ladies to Killeen on Sunday September 27th and played two very tough matches against very strong Abbeydorney teams.Last Sunday was the turn of St Pat’s girls to visit us for a rematch to the game played in Blennerville a few weeks ago.

This game was very keenly contested with great effort, skills and scores from both teams. We had a large turnout of players for these games and we were able to put our training for the last few months into practice.

BEST WISHES:We wish our U10 player Aoife Barrett a speedy recovery after suffering a broken arm in an accident at home.
