NA GAEIl LADIES U16: NA GAEIL v Austin Stack ladies Town League. We played Austin Stacks on Monday night. Stacks got off to a good start scoring 3 unanswered points.

Nora scored our 1st point but unfortunately we lost Muireann just a few minutes into the game with an injury and with Meagan playing in goals because of a nagging injury and Sarah Quigley out injured as well, we were finding it tough.

While we were trying to reorganise Stacks scored 2 quick goals giving Meagan no chance. Erika got the ball from Jadyn and buried into the back of the net. Jadyn scored a point before Erika scored another goal.

Stacks scored another couple of points before half time. Ciara went into goals at half time allowing Meagan to come and try and get back the deficit.

Nora and Mary playing in midfield and our defenders Aimee, Grainne, Mary, Maura, Ria and Nessa working hard trying to stop the runs from Stacks players. Meagan and Jadyn scored 1.01 each in the second half and despite the best efforts of our other forwards Abi, Sibeal, Blaithnaid, Caragh and Ciara, we found it tough to get through the Stacks defence and when we did ,their keeper was on fire.

Clodagh and Dearbhla came on in the backs with fresh legs along with Brid and Kay in the forwards but as the evening was getting darker, the Referee called the game up early as we were putting fierce pressure on them and we lost by 2 points.

We had a big squad along with Emily, Isabelle and Sophie joining us as well.Despite a few other decisions going against us on the night, we played well and did not deserve to lose from the performance that our young team showed but we face Kerins O Rahillys in the Town League final with date and venue to be confirmed.

NA GAEIL LADIES U15: NA GAEIL v John Mitchels u15 County Championship Round 1.We played away to John Mitchels on Sunday afternoon.

Brid started in goals with for the 1st half and had some spectacular saves and kick outs. Aimee, Mary and Laoise stood firm on the full back line, with Grainne in the centre half back line and reading the game so well and Dearbhla and Clodagh either side of her, we defended well.

Meagan and Jadyn who dominated midfield for the whole game scored a couple of points each before Mitchels got 2 lucky goals from both controversial decisions. But we drove forward with Erika making a great run from midfield and finding the back of the net.

Meagan and Jadyn exchanged another point each before Erika found the net again before half time. Freya came on at half time after Aimee hurt her shoulder in a brave tackle along with Sarah coming on for Clodagh.

The 2nd half got physical as Mitchels were trying to claw their way back into the game. Abi got herself 2 long range points along Caragh scoring a well worked point. Meagan scored 1.02 to give a healthy lead.

Mitchels still came at us scoring 2 more goals but with some stout defending and great blocking from our Captain Ciara and with Eimear dropping deep to reclaim any loose balls.

Eimear found Sibeal with one who then made a great run and finished it with a great solo point. Well done to all, next round is on Sunday at home against Kilcummin.

Team: Clodagh O Connor, Grainne Early, Mary O Connell, Nessa McGarty, Jadyn Lucey, Erika O Sullivan, Meagan Sheehy, Ciara Gaynor, Caragh O Neill, Abi Casey, Dearbhla Quirke, ,Brid Sinnott, Aimee Kerins,Sibeal Casey, Kay Barry, Sarah Barrett, Freya O Connor, Eimear O Sullivan.

MNA NA GAEIL: NA GAEIL v Kerry Garda Ladies .Carmel O Connor Memorial Shield Charity game in aid of Irish Red Cross.

We played the Kerry Garda Ladies for the 2nd year in a row. With our All Ireland Blitz next week, this was an ideal preparation game. We had 27 players togging out, so it was not easy to pick the starting team.

Anna started in goals and at times kept us in it with great saves. Mary Sheehy, Siobhan and Deirdre who were outstanding in the full back line.

Agnes, Susan and Blaithnaid were really strong in the tackle and making some great blocks. The Gardai got off to a flying start scoring 2 goals before we settled. Marguerite and Caroline were nearly run off their feet with the amount of work that they put in.

Susan scored a fine point from range. Melissa who made a couple of tough tackles hit the posts from range. The 2 Catherines on the half forward line made some great runs.

As the 1st half was coming to a close, Maeve aided by Sharon and Noelle scored 2 quick fire goals. We made a few changes at half time with Sheena and Denise making their debuts alongside Mags Peters, Fidelma, Deborah and Janice.

Brid came on and was unlucky not to get a couple of points. Mary Ross and Cait came in at the backs, defending stoutly. Sheena got a goal from a longe range followed by a fine point from Deborah. Noelle was using her strength( elbows).

Catherine O Shea who flying on the wings fed Denise with a ball and scored herself a goal. Heather followed this up with a fine point and a great instinctive goal. Janice defended for life and made a great block near the end.

Mary Sheehy came into forwards looking for a bit of glory. We finished the game winning 5.03 to 2.03. Team ; Rosemarie Mc Garty, Siobhan Quigley, Sheena Sexton, Susan Fernane, Blaithnaid Coakley, Marguerite Maunsell, Melissa Hurley, Amy Slattery, Sharon Roche, Mary Sheehy, Heather Shanahan, Cait Griffin, Catherine O Connor, Helen Sugrue, Deborah Walsh, Mary Ross, Deirdre Lynch, Agnes Sheehy, Anna Sheehy,Caroline Dillane,Brid Rath, Noelle Kingston, Catherine O Shea, Denise Shanahan,Janice McHugh, Fidelma McGinty, Mags Peters.

THANK YOU: A special thanks goes to Riona and Sarah for helping us out on the day. A mention and thanks has to go to Seamus Moriarty and Liz Tuomey for organising the game and the U10 blitz that was on before it and to Sean, Jackie and Staff and the hosptality that oureselves, Gardai and The Red Cross got after the game.

Finally to all our players who have improved vastly since our 1st game 12 months ago.

BEST WISHES:Best of luck to our Mna Na Gaeil head to Dublin this weekend to play in the Mothers and Others All Ireland Blitz in Portmarnack.

NA GAEIL U14:The girls are finishing up the season with a flurry of games. We played Stacks at home last Friday evening in a thrilling Townboard semi-final. Some of the girls were nervous facing a division 1 team but it wasn’t long before they realised they were a match for the visitors.

The scoring was kept low as marking was tight and very little was given away by either side. Stacks went in front with 2 points from play before Na Gaeil edged in front with a goal.

Stacks dominated scoring for a spell before half time but the home side got a second goal to leave the visitors with a 2 point lead at half time, 2-3 to 2-1. The halftime speeches by the coaches must have hit a chord as both teams seemed have lifted their games even futher.

Early points were exchanged by both sides in the second half but a goal be Stacks widened the gap. The girls in green then hit a purple patch and picked off some lovely scores to narrow the gap to the minimum.

They were then hit by a succer punch when Aine pulled off a great save only for the ball to come off the upright and get knocked in by one of the Stacks players.

With time running out the girls gave it their all and on another day decissions might have swung their way. However, the game finished Na Gaeil 3-6 Stacks 4-5. The girls can be very proud of a great performance. We await details of the North Kerry and Townboard Shield finals.

WELL DONE: To all the girls following the win in the County ‘B’ win over John Mitchels.

NA GAEIL GIRLS U8/U10:Our U10 girls took part in a blitz held in our own grounds in Killeen last Saturday. In the first game we took on local rivals Austin Stacks and after taking the game to them and leading for the first period of the game, Stacks eventually took control and dominated scoring in the final few minutes to run out winners.

Listowel Emmetts were our second opponents and this was an excellent contest that flowed from end to end with plenty of scores. After a tight battle, Na Gaeil girls just about pipped Emmetts after a late goal.

In the final game we were too strong for a young Dingle team and ran out clear winners, this game gave us an opportunity to give plenty of playing time to our younger players.
Our team included a mix of u10 and u8 players that gave a great display over the three games and this is very encouraging for next year.

Team on the day included, Siena, Keelin, Ava, Aisling Casey, Elsie Peig, Shania, Siun, Grace, Chloe, Sorcha, Aoife, Katie, Caoimhe, Evelyn and Aisling Tansley.
