Na Gaeil U6’s enjoying a training session in Killeen recently.

Senior Championship    St. Brendan’s will play East Kerry in the semi final of the Senior Football Championship on Friday evening next in Austin Stack Park at 7.30pm. We wish the team and management the very best of luck. The good news is that the game will be shown live on TG4.

U14    Last Wednesday night, Sept 2nd, our U14 lads were away to Firies in Round 2 of the league. We played with the slight breeze in the first half and had plenty possession. Despite squandering a lot of chances we led at halftime by 1-6 to 1-2. Firies dominated the third quarter, aided by the breeze and steady rain.

Their killer scores were two goals in quick succession. This left them ahead by four points at the water break. Our lads clawed back three points to leave just 1 in it with a few minutes remaining and the game was in the balance. However two late converted frees sealed the win for Firies. Final score: Firies: 3-07; Na Gaeil: 1-10.

It was back to training for the squad on Sunday, September 6th. Next up is our third & final game in Phase 2 of the league. The lads have had one win and one loss so far. Next Wednesday, September 9th, we’re due to host Currow in Killeen. Time of throw-in has yet to be finalized. We wish the lads the best of luck.

U12   On Sunday morning Na Gaeil White hosted Legion who got off to a very good start and we were playing catch up from an early stage with Legion deserved winners on the day. In the evening Na Gaeil Green and Gold teams travelled to Listowel. The Green Team encountered a very strong Listowel A team and were defeated on the night. The Gold Team had another tough encounter with Listowel B and after a tight contest when the final whistle blew the game ended in a draw!

U10   On Thursday last we hosted Ardfert and fielded three strong teams. Ardfert played some of their U12 boys to make up numbers and three very competitive games were played. On Sunday last we trained hard to get ready for a number of matches that we have lined up in the weeks ahead. To kick start, we travel to Ardfert on Thursday and Currow at the weekend.

U16 Ladies    After a good campaign undefeated in the U16 County League, we have a semi final on Wednesday September 9th at 7.00pm in Na Gaeil It has been well fought and well deserved.

Na Gaeil Ladies    Our Senior Championship ended on Sunday when we played at home to current Senior Championship holders Southern Gaels. After coming away with a one point defeat to them in Foilmore, we played a great game at home to Southern Gaels and defeated them on a scoreline of 5.06 to 2.10. As there were no semi-finals this year, our two losses to Rathmore meant that we couldn’t make the final but we played well at times and we now have the North Kerry League to look forward to.

Mothers and Others    Our Mná Na Gaeil football team is up and running again with training on Tuesday and Saturday evenings. Gaelic for Mothers and Others is for those who may have retired from football and also for those that have never played football. It’s a fun way of making new friends, having a bit of fun, getting a bit fit and learning some football skills. There is also the social side of it which is probably the most important part. Everyone is welcome from the young to the more experienced.

Split the Bucket    Split the Bucket is a new fundraising drive by Na Gaeil in order to raise funds to run our busy and vibrant club. As all our usual fundraising initiatives are severely affected due to the Covid 19 restrictions we would be most grateful if you could support our Split the Bucket campaign. As of now buckets are in Byrnes Spar in Oakpark and in Ray’s Loaded Lunches in Rock Street. Details of our first draw will be announced soon. We thank you for your support.

Sympathy    We extend our sincere sympathy to the Walsh family on the recent death of Brendan Walsh, Ballyhenry, Abbeydorney. May he rest in peace.

Clubhouse Open The clubhouse is open for food on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from 6.30pm to 10.30pm. Club members can order a toasted sandwich, chips and salad plus a couple of more options for €9. Last food orders are at 8.45pm. This weekend went very well and there is very positive feedback from club members that availed of the service. Hope to see you there next weekend.

Clubhouse The clubhouse is closed for all outside activities and the gym will also be closed until there is further clarification from GAA Headquarters as to when they can re-open. This means that our Monday night bingo, Tuesday night lotto and Wednesday night card playing are suspended until then as well as all other activities that normally took place there on a weekly basis.
