Na GaeilRACE NIGHT: Another very successful race night, spearheaded by Donal Lucey and his hard working committee was held in the club last Saturday night.

All the weeks of  hard work selling horses ,getting sponsorship and collecting spot prizes certainly paid off.

There was a large crowd in attendance and the night proved to be a most enjoyable one.The support from local businesses and club members was great to see in these still difficult financial times, just goes to show how much NA GAEIL football club is valued in the local community.

Best dressed Lady went to the elegant Mary Ellen O Connor and the distinguished  Tom Rooney was chosen best dressed Man.

All funds raised on the night will be reinvested straight back into our youth and seniors and help fund the club for the 2016 season.

NA GAEIL LADIES U14: Townboard Shield final. Unlike our previous number of matches this game was played in true Winter conditions with plenty of wind and rain.

However, this did not take from the girls enthusiasm with all bar one showing up.  Special thanks to the Mitchells for providing the flood lit facilities on the evening.

This was our last U14 game of a long season and it was fitting to play the Mitchells as we have had great rivalry over the past number of years.

Ria Walsh and Kay Barry were joint captain’s on the night and winning the toss selected to play with the wind in the first half.  This proved to be a big advantage as the majority of play was confined to the Na Gaeil forward line.

Mary and Grainne in midfield was the launching pad for most of the attacks.  Abi on her return from injury had her shooting boots on and had a first half tally of 0-3. Sarah who is as comfortable in the forwards as the backs scored 2-1.

Caragh at full forward was proving a handful for the defence also, netting 2 goals. Kay, Muire, Ciara and Isabelle were instrumental in the support play. The half-time score line read Mitchell’s 0-0 Na Gaeil 4-4.

We were under no illusions that this game was a done deal as we had to face the wind in the second half and knew the Mitchell’s would come back strong at us.  The defenders who had a quiet time in the first half were now seeing plenty of ball and Aine in goal pulled off some great saves but some of the shots were a bit too good.

The half backs of Clodagh,  Dearbhla and Laoise were under constant pressure to keep the attacks at bay. Ria was soaking up a lot of pressure at fullback with Brid and Sophie assisting at the corners.

Mitchell’s had their tails up and scored 5-1 in the second half. However, with the fresh legs of Emily, Freya, Eimer and Megan we managed to stem the tide.  A lovely second half goal be Abi proving the difference in the end.

Final score: Mitchells 5-1 Na Gaeil 5-4.Well done to all for a busy and successful year.  Enjoy the Winter break and we will see you all shortly for the Awards night at the clubhouse.
