Senior team: Na Gaeil travelled to Miltown on Sunday last to play Beaufort in round five of the Co. League. The field in Beaufort was not available as they were doing some remedial work.We thank Miltown for making their fabulous facilities available. Unfortunately, with a depleted team, we chased the game from the beginning. Beaufort were ahead by three points to nil after eight minutes when we got our only point from play of the half, per Dan Goggin. Beaufort got a goal within a minute and added three more point to our two pointed frees from Dara Devine to leave the half time score 1–06 to 0–03. The second half continued in much the same manner with the close marking of Beaufort putting our forwards under great pressure.

We got five points in this half three from play, Jack Sheehan, Dan Goggin and Fergal Barry. Dara Devine and Dan Goggin added two frees. Beaufort added six points, one mark and five from play. Though under constant pressure our back performed well and were very disciplined, giving away only two points from frees, both in the first half. Man of the match had to be Kieran Dennehy for Beaufort who scored 1– 05 and seeing that the their full back line and centre field got three points it shows that our backs had their hands full from all parts of the field. Final score 1 – 12 to 0 – 08.

B Team: Our B team played Dingle, at home, on Saturday evening going down on a score of 2 – 10 to 3 – 10. This was a most entertaining game where both teams gave of their best and got the spectators involved especially in the second where all remained until the final whistle. We were down by 0 – 03 to 0 – 07 at half time, our scores coming from John Kearney, Aaron Dewey and Liam Óg Kingston. The second half was a dinger with the highlights being two goals in quick succession by Aaron Dewey and some fine points from Donal Moynihan, Tadhg Reen, Graham Sheehy. Unfortunately after our goals Dingle hit us for two goals within a minute which was too much to haul back with only minures left.

Sympathy: The club would like to offers it sincere sympathy to PJ O’Halloran on the recent passing of his sister Mary McGrath in Abbeydorney. May she rest in peace.

U15 boys: Last Wednesday night our u15s hosted Glenflesk in their final game in the county league Div 3B. We got off to a great start and got through for 1-1 after only 3 minutes. Then Glenflesk took over and put 6 points on the board without reply. Our lads had the better of the 2nd quarter however, to leave us ahead by 2-5 to 0-8 at halftime. Twice in the second half we led by 4 points only for Glenflesk to score a goal and peg us back. With about 8 minutes remaining we led by 5 points but Glenfesk added 1-1 to leave us just a single point ahead in injury time. We managed an insurance point from a free to leave the final score Na Gaeil 3-14, Glenflesk 3-12. I must give a special mention to our super goalie Iarla who saved 2 penalties during the game! Team: Iarla Ó hAinféin, Jack Kelly, Daragh Morris, Cathal Fitzgerald, Ruadhan Clifford, Jamie Schoenmaker, Cillian Griffin, William Somers, Liam Cooper, Jake Coffey, Conor Lucey, Ryan Sheehy, Paddy McElligott, Jeaic Canty, Brian Reidy. U15 Féile: Our lads played 2 games in their group in the Féile competition in Kerins O’Rahillys pitch last Saturday knowing that they had to win both games in order to qualify for the semi-finals. Firstly we played a very strong, physical Kilcummin side and it took a great goal from Fionn Daly early in the second half to get us the win. Our second game was against Annascaul/Lispole. For long stretches of this game we were in arrears. At halftime we were down 4 points and we looked to be in trouble. However our lads showed great determination to narrow the gap to 2 points with about a minute remaining. One last attack found its way to Danny Kingston who got around his marker and blasted it to the net to send us through to the semi-finals which will be played today, Monday in Currans. Thanks to Mici Griffin for providing jaffa cakes & cereal bars for the players.
