Seniors: Our senior team travelled to Annascaul last Sunday for round 9 of the County League Div 2 needing a win.

We got off to a very good start, with 3 unanswered points in the first 4 minutes, one each from Fergal Barry, Dan O’Connor and James O’Connor. Annascaul settled and added 4 points in a row to leave them ahead by 4 points to 3 after 12 minutes.

Na Gaeil enjoyed most of the possession for the next 10 minutes and significantly added 5 points without reply to stretch their lead to 4 points. Both sides added 4 points each to their total before the break to leave the halftime score Annascaul 0-8, Na Gaeil 0-12. An early second half point from Annascaul was quickly cancelled out by a Tomás Ó hAinféin point from play.

A black card for Na Gaeil’s Dan Goggin soon followed but points from the prominent Damien Bourke & Dan O’Connor stretched Na Gaeil’s lead to 6 points with 20 minutes remaining. Annascaul’s slim hopes of a revival were dashed soon afterwards when one of their playersreceived a black card and Na Gaeil added further scores from Jack Sheehan, Mike Griffin and Dan Goggin to seal a valuable win on a scoreline of Annascaul 0-11, Na Gaeil 0-19.

U11 boys: Our older lads performed very well against a very good Rathmore side last Thursday night and none of them left our side down. They all battled to the end and never gave up. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be our night. We’ll dust ourselves down and get ready for Kerins O Rahillys next Thursday. Training continued last Sunday and we were delighted to have Tom Joy, Kerry Games Development Officer for Tralee District taking the training session. It was a good, fun session and Tom is a fantastic coach.

U13 boys:  Na Gaeil Green and White teams were both away to Firies last Sunday and two fantastic games were played. Na Gaeil Green team were on at 5.30pm and Firies got the much better start going into a lead of 6 points in the first half due to some early goals. However Na Gaeil boys fought back hard and closed the gap to just 1 point in the second half with some fantastic worked goals and the game could have gone either way. Firies got a goal towards the end that kept daylight between the sides and finished out to win the game by 5 points. Na Gaeil 5-6 and Firies 5-11.

Na Gaeil White team played at 7pm and it was an outstanding contest with every score having to be fought hard for. Na Gaeil had a great start with an early goal and were denied twice soon after by two great saves by the Firies keeper. Firies dug deep and kicked two points without reply and Na Gaeil returned with another point. Then a Firies goal lifted their spirits and they kicked 5 more points to Na Gaeil’s 1 point before halftime to lead 1-7 to 1-3. The second half saw Na Gaeil win the throw in again and three great passes resulted in a great goal. It was over and back for all the second half with both teams showing fierce determination and work rate. Na Gaeil’s defence were immense and denied Firies numerous scoring chances. Midfield and Forwards were outstanding also and worked some brilliant scores and created loads of opportunities. Our goalie was great and showed great hands with solid catches and some fine saves. Final score was Na Gaeil 3-6 and Firies 3-9. Thanks to Firies for two outstanding games. Both Na Gaeil teams can be very proud of two great performances.
