Kerry Petroleum Senior Club Championship 2022:

Last Saturday, August 13th 2022 Na Gaeil travelled to Dingle to play their hosts in Round 2 of the senior club championship. A point from our captain Kieran O’Donovan got us off to a good start but Dingle replied with four unanswered point to lead 4-1 at the first waterbreak.

A converted mark by Jack Bourke and a point from Jack Sheehan kept us well in touch before Dingle added another point to lead by 5 points to 3.

After a series of wides from both sides Diarmuid O’Connor slotted over a free after Jack Barry had been fouled, to leave the halftime score Dingle 0-5, Na Gaeil 0-4.

From the throw-in Dingle attacked and when a goal-bound shot was parried by our keeper Devon Burns it was finished to the net by one of the in-rushing Dingle forwards. Dingle quickly followed up with another point to put them ahead by 5 points and it looked ominous for Na Gaeil.

However, Na Gaeil worked the ball down field to Dan Goggin who laid it off to Jack Sheehan on the run. Jack left his man for dead and fired a bullet to the back of the net to cut the gap to 2 points. Dingle replied with the next point but again Na Gaeil hit back.

A hop ball on the Dingle 21m line was cleverly fisted down by Jack Barry. James O’Connor was quickest to react and pushed the ball past the Dingle keeper to level the game. A pointed free from Diarmuid O’Connor put Na Gaeil ahead but only briefly as Dingle’s Paul Geaney scored one of his own just before the whistle went for the waterbreak.

The fourth quarter started with a wide apiece before a converted free for Dingle put them 1 point ahead again. Another Diarmuid O’Connor free levelled matters yet again. At this stage the game looked to be heading for a draw as the exertions of the evening were beginning to take their toll on both teams. However Dingle scored the last point of the evening from a free.

Unfortunately for Na Gaeil they just couldn’t muster an equalising point and when the final whistle went they had been pipped on a scoreline of Dingle 1-10, Na Gaeil 2-6.

U13 girls: Well done to our girls who defeated Laune Rangers last night in the U13 Championship. Next they will face Kerins O’Rahillys in the semi-final.

U9 boys: The under 9s have had a busy week playing both Ardfert and Dr Crokes in challenge games. Then last Sunday morning they built up a sweat as they trained hard in preparation for their upcoming games. Holding the Sam Maguire at the end was a real treat after their tough session!

U11 boys: The lads had a nice, fun morning yesterday training where they did a 3-man weave finishing with a score and finished up with a shooting competition against the clock which the lads thoroughly enjoyed. We then went to have photos with Sam Maguire!

U13 boys: Our Green team played Milltown/Castlemaine in Killeen on Sunday evening at 5.30pm. It was a great sporting game and it was Milltown/Castlemaine that got the better start. Our boys got to grip with things midway through the first half and went in four points up at halftime.

Defending was excellent and the lads worked really hard to support each other enabling them to get some great scores. Kick outs were really good and in the second half this helped us to push on and get goals which in the end was the difference. Final score was Na Gaeil 5-15 and Milltown/Castlemaine 1-13.

Our White team played at 7pm also against Milltown/Castlemaine and our boys got off to a great start in this one netting 4 Goals by the first water break. The movement by our boys was excellent.

Kick outs were efficient and the work rate is what earned them a great win on the night. Milltown/Castlemaine to their credit never gave up and battled all the way to the end displaying some fine football also and some great scores. Final score was Na Gaeil 5-20 to Milltown Castlemaine 1-10.

Thanks to Milltown/Castlemaine for two fine sporting games. We will train as normal on Tuesday and Thursday this week from 6pm to 7pm. Also looking forward to the Rose Cup next Saturday and thanks to all who have offered their help on the day.

U15 boys: Good luck to the Na Gaeil lads who are part of the St Brendans Board U15 team who play Mid Kerry in Blennerville next Wednesday in round 2 of the U15 County Championship shield competition. Those lads are Iarla Ó hAinféin, Jamie Schoenmaker, Ruadhan Clifford, Conor Lucey, Jeaic Canty, Liam Cooper, Paddy McElligott, Brian Heaphy and Cillian Griffin.
