Senior Co. Championship: Despite a very much improved performance we came up short against a well drilled Mid Kerry side in our second game of the championship on a score of 0–16 to 0-20.

Darragh Reen opened the scoring for us with a point which was cancelled out by Kieran Dennehy. Jamsie O’Connor put us one up before Mid Kerry got four on the trot. Diarmuid O’Connor pulled one back followed by another by Jamsie O’Connor.

The visitors registered two frees on the twenty first minute before Diarmuid O’Connor pointed a free on twenty-two minutes. Darragh Reen and Andrew Barry completed the scoring for us while we conceded two to leave the half time score Na Gaeil 0–08 to 0–11.

Jack Sheehan opened the scoring for us in the first minute and then forced a 45 in the second minute which Devon Burns duly converted. Mid Kerry came back with three. Diarmuid O’Connor pointed a free but Mid Kerry came back with three, one free.

Jack Barry pointed a free before Diarmuid O’Connor forced a 45, converted by Devon Burns and Devon closed the scoring for us with a long distance free while Mid Kerry got 3 on the trot, one from playand two frees.

Na Gaeil played well and the experience of playing at top level stood them in good stead. Our first half display was top drawer with six of our points coming from open play plus two frees. Our backs were under the cosh the whole time and certainly worked their socks off to keep us within three points.

Things could have been better, but the mid Kerry goalkeeper pulled off an outrageous save from Dan Goggin. In the second half we got two from play, four from frees and two 45s.

Overall, a satisfactory learning experience at the top level where we are competing very well. We look forward to an away game against West Kerry next weekend.

U14 girls: Our girls put in a great performance last Sunday evening when they defeated Kerins O’Rahillys in the Town League by 15 points to 6.

U9 boys: The under 9s headed to Fossa on Sunday where they gave a wonderful display of football. Coaches commended the boys on their passing which resulted in all players getting a turn at scoring. Well done boys!

U11 boys: Our older 11s had a very tough and competitive outing in Ballyduff where we once again had to prove our mettle against a lively Ballyduff.

Our defence really stood out led by Dean, Nathan and Rory and they definitely laid the platform for our victory. Well done to all 14 boys who took part and a special mention to the young ref from Ballyduff who reffed the game well and also a thank you to Ballyduff for hosting us.

U13 boys: Our Green Team host Ballymac in the Town League next Tuesday at 6pm while our White Team host Ballymac next Thursday at 6pm.

U15 boys: Last Wednesday night our U15 boys hosted Ardfert in the Kellihers Toyota Central Region Div. 3 semi-final. It turned out be a thrilling game that ebbed and flowed for 60 minutes.

Despite not having a game for almost 2 months our lads got off to a flying start and led by 2-5 to 0-1 after 15 minutes. However Ardfert then took over and dominated the remainder of the half to leave the sides level at halftime, 2-6 apiece.

An early goal for Na Gaeil at the start of the second half put us in front once more. But again Ardfert enjoyed a purple patch, adding 2-5 to just a single point for us to leave them 7 points ahead with just 15 minutes remaining.

Two excellent quick-fire goals by our lads got us right back in the game before Ardfert added 2 points to push them ahead by 3 points again. Again Na Gaeil got through for 2 goals and with just 5 minutes remaining we were 3 points up. Ardfert weren’t done yet though.

They raced upfield and buried a goal of their own to level the match. This was soon followed by an Ardfert point and it looked like they might take the spoils.

However our lads braved it out and struck for the equalising point with time almost up. Well done to all our lads on a great game.

We look forward to the replay next Wednesday in Ardfert at 6.15pm. Team: Iarla O hAinféin, Cathal Fitzgerald,Daragh Morris, Jack Kelly, Jamie Schoenmaker, Ruadhan Clifford, Cillian Griffin, Jeaic Canty, Conor Lucey, Jake Coffey, Liam Cooper, Karl Cronin, Paddy McElligott, Danny Kingston, Brian Reidy. Subs: Luke O’Donoghue, Fionn O’Brien, Sean Óg O’Connor, Darragh Callaghan & Gearóid Moynihan.

U17 boys:  U17 County Championship Shield final. On a gloriously warm Saturday afternoon in Currow, our u17s did us proud against a bigger and stronger Knocknagoshel/Brosna side.

Na Gaeil started off the stronger but in truth both sides exchanged scores until Knock/Brosna struck a goal after 10 minutes to leave the score at 1-1 to 0-1.

Not to be disheartened, our u17s showed great resolve and rallied to score 2 quick fire goals from Ruairí O’hAinféin and Seán Barrett to put our side into the lead.

The game ebbed and flowed and as the first half came to an end we found ourselves four points up. Some serious intensity in the tackle and quick counter attacking took its toll as the game recommence.

Knock/Brosna came out like a steam train and hit us hard but fair. Backed by Kerry Minor Midfielder Jack O’Sullivan, the amalgamation were able to cease our momentum and despite some excellent hustle by our young side, it wasn’t to be and we came away empty handed.

But that’s football and our lads battled hard and did the green jersey proud. Final score: Na Gaeil 2-11, Knock/Brosna 2-16.
