Race Night 2022: Last Friday night our annual Race Night took place in the clubhouse and the large crowd who attended were treated to a great evening’s entertainment.

The event was also broadcast live on the Na Gaeil Facebook page thanks to the expertise of Brian O’Shea, Denis Moriarty, James Costello, Alan Cantwell and Ciara O’Shea. The broadcast had over 600 views during the event.

As always Denis Sugrue was an excellent MC on the night. Congratulations to the Behan family whose horse “Harold’s Pride” scooped the €1,000 prize in the Na Gaeil Gold Cup.

Danny Brick and Mary Lacey were the winners in the Best Dressed Man and the Best Dressed Woman competitions sponsored by Ryles Mensware and Ballygarry Estate Hotel Spa.

Well done to Seán Herlihy who went home with the signed Kerry jersey after his winning bid in the auction.

The club would like to thank sincerely everyone who bought a horse for the event and everyone who sponsored a race or an advertisement for the programme.

A special mention to our hard working Race Night committee comprising of Terry McEneaney, Donal Lucey, Cathy Carey, Tim Lynch junior, Eddie Sheehy, John Barry, Colm Ó Suilleabháin, Mark O’Connor & Tim Lynch senior who put in so many hours of hard work to put the whole event together and in doing so they ensured it would be the huge success that it was.

The Tote on the night was excellently run by John Keating, Ann-Marie Lucey, Mike Golden and Mary Maunsell. Well done everyone!

In particular Harold Behan and Denis Reen, two former Club Chairmen, were remembered. A big thank you to all those involved in organising the mass especially Cathy Carey, Seán Warr for providing the music, Fr. Amos and those who brought along refreshments for the cúpán tae afterwards.

Our Chairman Tim Lynch spoke after the mass and praised the fantastic community that we have in Na Gaeil. He was delighted to see such a large crowd gathered for what he hopes will continue to be an annual event in the club.

He said it is very important to celebrate the memory of members who are no longer with us but who had contributed so much to our club since its formation in November 1978.

He said that those same founders and members would no doubt be very proud of how far we have come and he highlighted what a tremendous achievement it was for Na Gaeil to have our senior mens team and senior ladies team both competing at senior level in their respective championships.
