Kerry LGFA: Heartiest congratulations to Mary O’Connell and the Kerry Senior Ladies team who defeated Galway last Saturday to claim the National League Division 1 title for the first time since way back in 1991. Also on the team was Niamh Carmody who is a niece of Aidan Carmody. Well done ladies!

Kerry LGFA u16s: Congratulations to Eve Broderick & the Kerry team who won the Munster LGFA U16 B Championship Final last Friday night in Mallow. Final score Kerry 2-15, Waterford 3-7.

Scór: The Tralee District round of Scór na bPáistí was held last Tuesday in Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn. Upwards of 100 people were treated to a great night’s entertainment, courtesy of children from many of the Tralee clubs.

Na Gaeil were well represented in several of the disciplines. Caoimhe Daly held everyone spellbound as she told the story of Bridget & the Lurkeen. In the solo music competition, Philip Doyle treated us to a fine rendition on the flute of a jig called Banish Misfortunes, and for the solo dancing we had Aoibhín O’Sullivan who danced a light jig.

The Ceol Uirlise must have been very difficult to judge, as each group was as entertaining as the next! Representing Na Gaeil were Philip Doyle, Caoimhe Daly, Maria Healy & Rachel O Mahony and they gave fine renditions of the Ballydesmond Polka & the Lilting Banshees jig.

Last, but by no means least, were our young thespians, who performed “The Historical Journey” written by our resident playwright Mary Quirke. This was excellently depicted by Clodagh Morris, Philip Doyle, Jake Barrett, Farren Ní Dhálaigh, Caoimhe Daly, Lily Barrett, Danny Brick & Amelia O’ Callaghan. The drama now goes forward to the County Final, which will be held in Glenbeigh on the 29th April. Also qualified is our storyteller, Caoimhe Daly, and our solo dancer Aoibhín O’Sullivan.

Thanks to the Principal of GSME who gave permission for the hall to be used on Tuesday night. It’s a great venue for an event like this. Thanks also to the staff in our own club who are always so accommodating to us regarding rehearsals etc. For the first time in a good few years we had a music group.

This was thanks to the input of Kateanne O’Connor so we’re very grateful to her for coming on board at short notice. Similarly, it’s been eons since there was any dancing input from Na Gaeil so it was just lovely to see Aoibhín treading the boards. Obviously this was due to her own talent, but maybe also to some expert advice & assistance from Josephine McGillycuddy, who, like Kateanne, agreed to help out at short notice.

Thanks also to Helen Sugrue, our very own Scór Sinsear Co Aithriseoracht champion, who guided & advised Caoimhe Daly on how best to tell the wonderful story of Bridget & the Lurkeen.

I can’t possibly finish without a word about the aforementioned kids, who gave their all last Tuesday night, and were a joy to coach over the last few weeks. We actually pulled Scór na bPaistí together in very little time, so the excellent performances by all of them are testament to their enthusiasm & hard work. Roll on the County Final now! Na Gaeil Abú!

U18 Girls: Well done to our minor girls who defeated Beaufort last Monday in the County League.

U5 Boys & Girls: New members are always welcome. Contact Denis on 087-2808719.

U7 Boys & Girls: The U7’s were treated to a special warmup on Sunday morning from Andrew Barry and the senior players. This set the tone for a productive training session where the boys and girls focussed on their kicking skills and hand passing. Ending with a very competitive game.

U9 Boys: The under 9s had their first outing away to Ardfert last Tuesday evening. The boys played well in challenging conditions.

U11 Boys: The under 11 boys headed to sunny Moyvane yesterday to play their 3rd league game of the season. The boys displayed some lovely football with so many boys getting on the score sheet. Our defending was excellent with plenty blocking and dispossessing. Well done boys.

U13 Boys (White Team): U13 County League Div 1 Round 3: Na Gaeil 1-12 Killarney Legion 2-12. In a rip-roaring top of the table clash last Thursday the visitors left Killeen with the spoils, but with only a kick of the ball between the sides.

It was a game that really could have went either way. Legion started well goaling inside three minutes. The Na Gaeil response was swift through points from Andy Costello, Tom Slattery and Aaron O’Donovan with a beauty from the right wing.

Jake Barrett and James Kelly were tearing into the work when Slattery rattled the Legion net to push the home side ahead. Legion responded & after a pulsating first half both teams retired to the dressing room with the sides level.

Legion again started the second half well, but Philip Doyle, Dean O’Leary & Rory John O’Brien began to get on top. Ben O’Sullivan was rock solid in goals as ever and Costello kept the scoreboard ticking over from play & frees.

Na Gaeil entered injury time needing a goal to tie. Try as they might there was to be no breach of the Legion barricade. Well done to both sets of players on a terrific game of football and to Mike Moriarty on handling a sporting contest well.

Squad; Ben O’Sullivan; Dean O’Leary, Éanna Leahy, Philip Doyle; Jake Barrett, Joe Field, James Kelly; Tom Slattery, Eoin Tansley; Andy Costello, Danny Brick, Eoin Hannon; Aaron O’Donovan, Luca Cronin, Donagh O’Connell; Seán O’Connell, Rory John O’Brien.

U13 Boys (White Team): U13 Division 1 Round 4: Na Gaeil 1-12, Kilcummin 3-5. Well done to the Na Gaeil boys who squeezed a win by the minimum away to Kilcummin in the County League.

The sides were evenly matched in the first half with a great spread of points from Tom Slattery, Eoin Tansley and Andy Costello before Danny Brick coolly dispatched a one-on-one after being found by a beautiful pass from Aaron O’Donovan. Exchanges were frantic and fair as the visitors led by one at the break.

Na Gaeil got on top in the second half and scored through Costello, Tansley and a trademark score off the left from Eoin Hannon.

Nathan Anthony was causing all kinds of trouble for the Kilcummin rear-guard as Na Gaeil stretched their advantage to five entering the final stages. Na Gaeil defended manfully with Dean O’Leary being as tenacious as ever.

The hosts did manage to bring the margin down to the minimum, but when Joseph Field gathered a kick-out from the unerring Ben O’Sullivan, the referee blew the final whistle, to the relief of a strong travelling support!

Team; Ben O’Sullivan; Éanna Leahy, Dean O’Leary, Rory John O’Brien; Jake Barrett, Philip Doyle, James Kelly; Eoin Tansley, Tom Slattery; Andy Costello, Danny Brick, Eoin Hannon; Joseph Field, Nathan Anthony, Aaron O’Donovan, Sean O’Connell, Donagh O’Connell.

U13 Boys (Green Team): U13 Division 9 Round 3: Na Gaeil 3-5, Kilcummin 3-15. Great credit to both sets of players in playing out an entertaining game, where the final scoreline didn’t represent how close the teams were.

William Scanlon opened the visitors account before goal machine Paddy Hennessey bagged two goals in quick succession. At the break Kilcummin led 2-6 to 2-3. Jayden Chalke and Conor Reidy were working hard in the engine room and Seán Óg Murphy and Jude Hogan were both having a terrific battle with their markers.

Jonathan Sheehy scored in each half off the left leg and Daragh Sheehan played a mountain of ball on the left wing. Seán O’Connell was very assured in goals and Ephrem Falvey had a super game at centre back. Team; Seán O’Connell; Seán Óg Murphy, Jude Hogan; Daragh Sheehan, Ephrem Falvey, Eoin O’Connor; Conor Reidy, Jayden Chalke; Kieran Feely, Jonathan Sheehy, Adam Fitzgerald; William Scanlon, Ned Breen, Paddy Hennessey.
