Senior Mens Co. League: Round 7 of the Co. League was played in Na Gaeil yesterday. Na Gaeil on six points and Beaufort on seven meant that the game was of great importance to both sides. The day was perfect for football and the pitch was in great condition. Both teams went at it in great style from the start with scores being hard to come by. Na Gaeil were first to score after a minute by Fergal Barry.

This was cancelled after six minutes by Liam Carey and Fergal Hallissey then got a point for the visitors. Jack Bourke, from play and Dan Goggin a free put us ahead after sixteen minutes. Center back Sean Kelliher got Beaufort’s next on eighteen. Na Gaeil then took over and scored two goals per Jack Bourke and Kieran O’Connor and two points by Dan Goggin to one point for Beaufort from Fergal Hallissey, just back from injury. Half time score 2 – 05 to 0 – 04 in our favour.

We went into a much more defensive mode in the second half and managed just three points, two from Dan Goggin after 6 and 13 minutes and the final point on twenty-nine minutes from Sean O’Connor, a point which settled our nerves.

Beaufort upped their game and out-scored us in this half 0-07 to 0-03. Some stout defending by our backs and Devon in goal made sure that they got no goal. Final score Na Gaeil 2–08, Beaufort 0–11. Referee Michael Hennessy had a fine game.

He gave a black card to each team, and it would be hard to argue with either. Team: Devon Burns, Ryan O’Neill, Niall O’Mahony, Jimi O’Suilleabháin, Fergal Barry, Damien Bourke, Kieran O’Donovan (VC), Andrew Barry (C), Tomás O’hAiniféin, James O’Connor, Dara Devine, Dan Goggin, Kieran O’Connor, Seán O’Connor, JackBourke. U7 Boys & Girls: Well done to our under 7’s who had a busy training session yesterday morning. The session concentrated on a number of activities, practicing the block-down, bodycatch, side step and kicking skills followed by a game.

U11 Boys: Well done to our under 11 boys who trained hard yesterday morning in preparation for their upcoming league game away to Kenmare next Thursday.

U13 A Boys: Na Gaeil A 2-4, Legion A 1-12. Hard luck to our A team last night, who despite a phenomenal effort, couldn’t crack a stout Legion team. The visitors shaded the first half, but Seán O’Connell was imperious in goal, Dean O’Leary was superb and Philip Doyle played his best football of the year.

Donagh O’Connell’s goal meant we trained by the minimum at the break. Eoin Hannon capped a fine performance by bagging a goal in the second period and added to frees and one from play from Andy Costello with a beaut off the left from Joe Field, we kept in within striking distance coming towards the end of the game.

A stop start finish meant we ran out of time to finish with the scores our play deserved. The management team are as always super proud of all players and have no doubt that bright days are ahead for a great group!

Seán O’Connell; Jayden Chalke, Dean O’Leary, Rory John O’Brien, Jake Barrett, Eoin Tansley, Philip Doyle, Joe Field, Tom Slattery, James Kelly, Danny Brick, Eoin Hannon, Aaron O’Donovan, Andy Costello, Donagh O’Connell, Luca Cronin.

U13 B Boys: Na Gaeil B 3-6, Legion B 3-14. Despite the final scoreline we had a huge amount of positives to take from our Green team last evening. The performances from Ephrem Falvey at full back, Ruairí Coakley and Dylan McCarthy showed that the future is very bright. Rory O’Sullivan was a constant threat in the corner and ended up with 1-2.

Corey Kinsella showed great potential. Paddy Hennessey played a stormer finishing with 1-4 to his name. Well done to Legion on finishing the game with some super passages of play. Team; Seán O’Connell, Daragh Sheehan, Ephrem Falvey, Eoin O’Connor, Dylan McCarthy, Jude Hogan, Ruairí Coakley, Conor Reidy, Luca Cronin, Ben O’Donovan, Jonathan Sheehy, Paddy Hennessey, Vinny Hannon, Corey Kinsella, Rory O’Sullivan.

U15 A Boys: Our U15A team played the Div 2 Co. League final against Legion last Wednesday evening in Listry GAA. It was a fantastic occasion with both teams more than ready for this big decider.

Legion had previously beaten us in the group game on a score of 2-10 to 2-08 so the final was expected to be another tight affair. Our boys got off to a great start and won the throw in and registered a point early on the board from Danny Kingston.

Legion were very solid on the night and defended really well but thanks to relentless work of Samson Abubakar, Darragh Callaghan, Shane O’Donovan and Brian Heaphy outside our boys continued to supply great ball to the inside line of Ryan Sheehy and Danny Kingston.

However the Legion defense was excellent and scores were hard to come by but another free from Danny Kingston put us 2 points clear. Legion on the offensive were powerful but huge credit has to go to Cillian Griffin at centre-back and Gearóid Moynahin at full back who were really immense and kept Legion number 11 and number 14 scoreless from play respectively.

Jack Kelly and Donncha Hartnett were as always extremely busy and shut down anything coming in from the wings. Sean Óg O’Connor and Victor Malakov were excellent and proved to be a great outlet every time for our goalkeeper Jacob Drzymala (captain).

That said it was Na Gaeil who were the better team in the first half and Fionn Ó Dálaigh and Brian Reidy covered every area of the field to win ball back for our boys and eventually it paid off with a ball into Danny Kingston whose shot for a point rebounded off the upright but was sharp enough to follow it in and retrieve and finished well to the back of the net.

Scoreline now was 1-02 to 0-0. Again Legion came back strong but Samson Abubakar was always there to contest midfield and Shane O’Donovan just seemed to be everywhere also and got on a huge amount of ball. Another point from Danny and a point from Legion made it 1-03 to 0-01 at halftime.

Second half as expected, Legion were immense and if it were not for Gearóid Moynahin, Cillian Griffin and Darragh Callaghan defending the middle we would probably not have survived. Introduction of subs Karl Cronin and Philip McEneaney were both possible game changers in the fresh legs they brought to it.

Legion managed to get within a point of us with Legion 1-03 and our boys 1-04, after a point from Ryan Sheehy. The pressure was mounting and then Danny Kingston was brought down in the box and the penalty was awarded. Danny stepped up himself to take it and delivered and the score was now 2-04 to 1-03.

Ten minutes still to go it was edge of the seat stuff with Legion managing 3 more points and our boys 2 more from Danny left the final scoreline of 2-06 to 1-06.

It was indeed a cracking final but on the night our work rate was slightly better and our defense was outstanding enabling us to get over the line as worthy winners on the night. Huge thanks to Listry GAA for the great condition of the field and huge thanks to Legion for a great match. Also many thanks to the referee for a great game also.

U15 B Boys: Our lads unfortunately were on at the same time as the final so it was disappointing they could not be with us but they had their own shield semifinal to contend with in Fossa GAA who had the home advantage.

It was Fossa that got the much better start with some early goals but our lads dug deep and fought back into it. After 15 mins it was 2-06 to 0-02 but the lads kept battling. They got within eight at halftime and to their credit should have had 3 or 4 goals in the second half but nothing seemed to go their way.

Final score was 5-10 to 1-07 in favour of Fossa. Thanks to Fossa for a great game and thanks to the referee for doing a great job.

U17 Boys: Last Monday night our u17 boys played their third and final group game in the Kellihers Toyota Central Region league when they travelled to Castleisland to play Desmonds.

The opening few minutes saw both teams register a point but Desmonds then took over and blitz us to leave them ahead 4-6 to 0-3 after 22 minutes. Our lads did manage to get the final 3 points of the half but it still left us 12 points behind at halftime.

By the ten minute mark in the second half Desmonds has increased their lead to 15 point, 5-8 to 0-8. But credit to our lads they knuckled down and dominated the scoring from there until the end, including two 45s brilliantly kicked by Conor Lucey.

Unfortunately though, we ran out of time and our lads lost out on a final scoreline of Desmonds 5-10, Na Gaeil 2-14. Team: Iarla Ó hAiniféin, Jeaic Canty, Kevin O’Donoghue, Ruadhan Clifford, Jamie Schoenmaker, Cillian Griffin, Conor Lucey, Ruairí Ó hAiniféin, Jack Costelloe, Mark Lynch, Paddy McElligott, Brian Heaphy, Seán Barry, Jack Kelly. Tonight (Monday) these lads host Dingle/Annascaul/Lispole in the Central Region Div 4 semi-final at 7pm.
