Seniors

Na Gaeil Seniors play Lispole at home on Sunday April 3rd  2.00pm in round 2 of the County League. All support welcome.

There is a possibility that the starting time could be changed to 12pm to facilitate people attending  the Kerry v Cork league match in Austin Stack Park.

Mike Griffin, Jack and Andrew Barry and Dara Carmody were part of the St Brendan’s Team that defeated Shannon Rangers in the qualifier round of the senior county championship at the weekend on a scoreline of 3-15 to 3-6. The manner in which this victory was achieved suggests that St Brendan’s could do very well in the competition.

Minors

We played Rathmore away in round four of the county league and came home with all the points winning 1-09 to 0-09. This was an exciting and hard fought game with both teams showing good skill and fitness in very poor weather conditions. A goal by Morgan Moriarty on 25 minutes was the difference which gave us breathing space for the remainder of the game. It has to be noted the vocal support by parents and club members was a factor in this win. As always team play and an entire panel contribution has been why we are unbeaten in the county league to date. We play Beaufort in Kileen next Friday at 6.30pm. All support appreciated. Our new jerseys sponsored by Leahy’s Pharmacy looked very well on the lads.

U 14 Boys

We were due to play St. Pats in round three of the Brendan’s league but the game was deferred to a later date. We will play St. Marys away this Wednesday in round one of the county league at 6.30pm. All support is welcome as we will need drives. Please return registration forms and dues before next Wednesday.

U 12 Boys

Training is on Thursday at 6.30 pm. Our first County League game takes place next Sunday evening away to Castleisland Desmonds.
U 10 Boys

Well done to the hardy boys who braved the terrible weather to train last Sunday with J.J. Thanks to Niall O’Meara who gave J.J. a hand with the training. Outdoor training again next Sunday at Na Gaeil pitch at 11am. In the meantime  don’t forget to continue practicing your skills. Remember, practice makes perfect!

Senior Ladies

Na Gaeil v Corca Dhuibhne. Senior Ladies County League Div 1, 2nd Round. We played on Sunday morning at home to Corca Dhuibhne in poor wet conditions. Corca Dhuibhne played with the wind and started brightly scoring 3 early points.

As we were missing a lot of players, we had to switch players to new positions to compensate so it took a small while for our girls to settle.

The showers of hailstone didn’t help either but Maria started to get control in midfield, with Nora and Jadyn on the half back line starting to win more ball. Susan and Kate Anne stood firm especially in the 1st half to protect their goalkeeper Blaithnaid but when Blaithnaid was called into action, she left nothing past her.

We went in at halftime down by 0.03 to 0.02. We came out in the 2nd half refreshed with Meagan and Eilis making strong runs forward and setting up Sarah for some great long range points. Clodagh and Caoimhe kept making the runs to create space for our players coming through the middle.

Maria scored a goal to help us take control. Corca Dhuibhne made one last burst through our defence but Blaithnaid stood strong, made the block and cleared the ball to Meagan who then found Eilis. Eilis ran with the ball, laid it off to Jadyn and passed it to Sarah who finishedt off with another point.

This was a great team performance. Well done to all who played in atrocious conditions. Final Score: Na Gaeil 1.08. Corca Dhuibhne  0.03.
This was Maria’s last game with us for a while as she is venturing off to Alaska for a few months and we wish her the best.

Team: Blaithnaid O Connor, Susan Fernane, Kate Anne O Connor, Jadyn Lucey, Nora O Connell, Eilis O Connor, Maria Quirke, Meagan Sheehy, Sarah Cunningham, Caoimhe Hanafin, Clodagh McHugh.

There will be a Table Quiz on Friday the 1st April in Na Gaeil to help fundraise for the Na Gaeil Ladies U14 team who will be participating in the upcoming Féile na nÓg which is being held in the County. Please come and support.

U 14 Ladies

U14 team v Fossa

Na Gaeil Ladies U 14 team that defeated Fossa in the 1st round of the County League Division 2.

The girls have been back training for the last few weeks and had their first match of the season last Sunday.

We entertained Fossa in the first round of the County league Div. 2.  As it was Easter weekend both teams were missing players. However, we still managed to have an entertaining match.

The Na Gaeil girls under captain Brid Sinnott were not long shaking off the Winter cobwebs and had their scoring boots on with some lovely points from Ciara, Abi, Caragh, Muire and Dearbhla.  Ciara and Abi had their sights on goal also and scored three well taken goals.

Mary and Dearbhla were dominant in midfield and controlled the game setting up their forwards for their scores. Winnie had her first game in the ‘big’ goals and although did not have too much to do she still played well. The full back line of Eimer, Brid and Megan were solid and did not allow much past them.

The half backs, Freya, Sarah and Kayleigh were very mobile and were as dangerous going forward as they were defending.  Ailbhe and Siena were introduced from the U12’s and made a good contribution also. Final score Na Gaeil 3 – 6 Fossa 1 – 5.

Training continues Wednesdays 6:30 to 7:30 and Sundays 5:30 – 6:45.  New players are more than welcome!

A special mention to Na Gaeil players Mary O’Connell and Abi Casey who were on the victorious Kerry U14 team who defeated Cork in their opening Munster game two weeks ago.
