Seniors:  Na Gaeil entertained Lispole in Round 2 of the Div 4 County League today in sun drenched Killeen, Oakpark.

Both sides exchanged wides before Mike Griffin opened the scoring for Na Gaeil with a point in the 7th minute.

From the kick out Lispole scored a fine point through Ryan Manning. With 10 minutes gone Na Gaeil defence were caught napping and allowed Lispole’s Declan O Sullivan through for a well taken goal.

Tomás  Kavanagh added a point for Lispole to leave the score Lispole 1-02 Na Gaeil 0-01 after 11mins. Scores were hard to come by for the remainder of the half but it was Na Gaeil that added the next 3 points through Mike Griffin 0-2 and Shane Carey 0-1 to leave the half time score Na Gaeil 0-05 Lispole 1-02.

Shane Carey had a point for Na Gaeil after the restart and Tomás Kavanagh had a point for Lispole. At this stage Na Gaeil began to control the game and scored the next 4 points: Mike Griffin 0-3 and Ian McCarthy 0-1. Na Gaeil 0-10 Lispole 1-03.

In the 43rd minute Kieran Donovan was brought down in the square but Mike Griffin drove the resulting penalty wide. Mike Griffin scored the next 3 points for Na Gaeil and in the 54th minute Declan O Sullivan had a point for Lispole.

3 minutes from time Mike Griffin was hauled down in the large parallelogram. Kieran Donovan took the penalty but Seamus Dempsey the Lispole keeper brought off a great save. Unfortunately for Lispole it fell into the path of Na Gaeil substitute Jordan Murphy who finished it to the net to leave the score Na Gaeil 1-13 Lispole 1-04.

Lispole had the final say with two well taken points from Tomás Kavanagh and substitute Eamon Begley. Final Score: Na Gaeil 1-13 Lispole 1-06

Referee Daniel Hayes from Duagh had a fine game and left the game flow as much as possible.

Mike Griffin for Na Gaeil was the stand out player on the day. He was unerring from frees and play and finished up with a remarkable personal tally of 0-10. He was well supported in the full forward line by Jamie Lowham who had a fine game.

Shane Carey and Seamie O Neill worked tirelessly in the half forward line. Jack Barry was in command at midfield and was well supported by Dan O Connor.

The defence stood firm all through with great displays from Dara Sheehy, Kieran Donovan and Eoin Walsh who settled in very well in the no. 6 jersey.

Na Gaeil: Timmy Culloty, Dara Sheehy, Dylan Brazil, Colm Lyons, Stephen Conway, Eoin Walsh, Kieran Donovan, Jack Barry, Dan O Connor, Dylan Seymour, Shane Carey (0-2), Seamie O Neill, Ian McCarthy (0-1), Jamie Lowham, Mike Griffin (0-10). Subs: Dave Culloty for Stephen Conway (half time); Paul Daly for Dylan Seymour; Jordan Murphy for Shane Carey; Cian Quirke for Seamie O Neill; Joe Hayes for Colm Lyons; Eoin Doody for Eoin Walsh.

Next weekend we play Dr. Crokes B away in Round 3 of the County League.

Best of luck to Andrew Barry and the Kerry U 21 team who play Cork in the Munster Final in Austin Stack Park on Thursday evening.

Minors:  Our last county league game V Beaufort was washed out on Saturday last and is re-fixed for this Tuesday in Na Gaeil at 6.30pm. All support appreciated.

Our sponsored jerseys by Leahy’s pharmacy are now part of our kit and our sponsored half zips and skinny pants by Meadowlands Hotel should be here for our upcoming home county league semi final which is provisionally fixed for Friday week in Na Gaeil.

The lads are working hard to prepare for these games and have shown good commitment to training. Keep it going now lads!

U 14 Boys:   We played our first division 2 county league game last Wednesday away to St. Mary’s and came away with all points on a final score line of 3-10 to 1-06.

St. Mary’s were missing some key players due to the Easter break and this was the difference early on when the Tralee lads got a good start and kept a 6 point lead for most of the game. We hope some injuries within the panel will clear up quickly.

We will play Kenmare at home this Wednesday at 7pm in Round 2. We are in Division 3 of the National Feile Competition this June and are paired with a Dublin club (yet to be qualified) so lots of exciting things for the lads to look forward to. We also have back games to play in the Brendan’s League in the coming weeks.

U 12 Boys:   Our U12s got their County League off to a flying start last Sunday evening with a fine win away to Desmonds. Having won the toss we elected to play with a slight wind advantage in the first half and we took some fine scores to give us a good lead going in at half time.

The weather turned from sunshine in the first half to heavy rain for the second half but we continued to pick off scores at vital times to keep us ahead going into the closing stages.

The lads who are new to U 12 football had great performances with Sean Barrett quick to pounce for our second goal. Shane Kelly, Shane Coffey, Seamus O Neill, Batty Coffey and Rory Reen all had impressive debuts  along with our more experienced lads who all contributed to a fine win. Training continues Thursday evening at 6.30.

U 10 Boys:   Outdoor training again next Sunday at Na Gaeil pitch at 11am. Everyone is welcome. In the meantime don’t forget to continue practicing your skills. Remember, practice makes perfect!

Each week all players are asked to bring their own water bottle & mouth-guards. All U8 players will undergo skills assessment facilitated by a professional coach over the coming weeks.

This will enable the coaching team to track progress of all players throughout the season. Girls U14  The girls made the trip from Tralee in glorious sunshine to play Legion. However by the time we got to Killarney the match had to be cancelled due to thunder, lightning and floods!

The game will now be played at a later date.  We hope to play Castleisland on Wednesday as both teams have players away on the weekend.

We sincerely thank all those who took part in and sponsored our fund raising quiz night for the girls’ Feile gear.  The night was very successful and great fun was had by all.  Hopefully the weather will now pick up and allow the girls to enjoy their football for the rest of the season.  Na Gaeil abu!
