Na GaeilNA GAEIL U14: The U14 team started their 2015 County League campaign with a home game against Churchill last Wednesday evening.

Adam Burke opened the scoring with a point in the opening minutes; however Churchill immediately struck back with an equalisingpoint before getting the first goal of the match and another point to open an early lead.

Na Gaeil responded with points from Mathew Burke and Tomas O’Hanifan and a goal from Dale Healy to regain the lead. Devon Burns then extended the lead to two points with a free.

In a tight first half Churchill were soon level with two unanswered points before scores from Jack Bourke and another from Devon Burns left Na Gaeil leading at half time by 1-6 to 1-4.

Churchill were straight out of the blocks in the second period and dominated the opening ten minutes of the second half. They scored three unanswered points to regain the lead.

At this stage they looked it looked like Churchill were the most likely winners as they had the benefit of a strong breeze and Na Gaeil were struggling to get out of their own half. However an excellent movement from Na Gaeil was finished with a goal from Jack Sheehan. Minutes later Mathew Burke scored another goal to open a five point lead.

Churchill replied with their fourth point of the half but a great goal from Jack O’Brien left Na Gaeil in control. Jack Sheehan and Tadgh Lynch scored further points for Na Gaeil but Churchill didn’t give up and scored four more points to leave the final score Na Gaeil 4-8 Churchill 1-12.

The entire team contributed to this hard fought victory. The backs played excellently especially in the second half and defended with great desipline. All the forwards scored, with nine different scorers on the night which proved the benefit of good team work.

Na Gaeil travelled to Ardfert on Sunday to play the fourth round of the St Brendan’s league.

The visitors opened the scoring with points from Dale Healy and Jack O’Brien. Ardfert soon replied with their opening score of the game before a free from Darragh Reen restored Na Gaeil’s two point lead. In a low scoring first half points from Tadgh Lynch and John Kelliher and two points from the home side left the half time score Na Gaeil 0-5, Ardfert 0-3.

A second free from John Kelliher and a point from Jack Bourke extended Na Gaeil’s lead early in the second half. Ardfert soon got their first score of the second period which was quickly cancelled by a point from Tadgh Lynch.

The home side replied with a well taken goal to reduce the deficit to a single score. However this was their last score of the game as Na Gaeil finished strongly. A point from Mathew Burke was followed by three excellent points in a row from Jack Sheehan before Darragh Reen got a late goal to leave the final score Na Gaeil 1-12 Ardfert 1-4. The victory means that Na Gaeil have reached the final of this competition.

NA GAEIL LADIES U16:Na Gaeil v Austin Stacks U16 North Kerry League Div 1 We played at home to Stacks in our 1st match of the year. Nora played in goals and made some fine saves. Miriam, Ria and Amii were making great blocks in the full back line.

Sarah who scored a fine point along with Muireann and Mary were working hard, creating scores and supporting our midfielders Meagan and Nessa from the half back line. Jadyn and Erika were working the wings well, getting a few points each and creating space through the centre for Sibeal to score a fantastic goal. Caoimhe and Clodagh had to work hard up front and were being marked tightly.

Stacks played with the wind for the 1st half, we were down by 2 points at half time. We had the wind for the 2nd half but were not able to capitalise as Stacks defended in numbers and we lost by a couple of points. It was a good workout in preparation for our County League Div 1.

NA GAEIL LADIES:Na Gaeil v Finuge/St Senans Senior County League Div 2, We played at to Finuge/St Senans on Sunday evening. Conditions were perfect, if not a bit too warm.

We started brightly with early points from Sarah Cunningham, Ayesha, Jadyn and Meagan. Finuge/St Senans scored a few points in the first despite some great blocking and defending from Muireann, Deirdre and Sarah Quigley. Brid , Shona and Sile were combining well together to keep their attack quiet. Marie and Sarah got a goal each before half time.

We were playing into the wind for the 2nd half. Finuge/St Senans started very brightly in the 2nd half, despite Niamh in goals making some great blocks and kickouts, she could do anything about their goal. They followed up with a few more points. But this seemed to get our girls back on course with Ayesha getting us a point, then we won a penalty which unfortunately hit the crossbar.

The miss seemed to drive us on even harder with Sarah getting a point, then Jadyn scored 3 quick goals along with 2 more points from Marie and a point from Eilis. Our wing forwards Nora and Eilis were using the width to great effect. Eimear came on at the backs, along with Caoimhe to the half back line. Nessa and Miriam came into the forwards and got stuck in straightaway . Final Score 5.09 to 1.07
