Na GaeilSeniors

Our senior team travelled to Lewis Road in Killarney on Saturday evening last to play Dr. Crokes B in Round 3 of the County League. Crokes were first off the mark after 2 minutes with a point from their no. 15.

This was cancelled out shortly afterwards with a point from Na Gaeil’s Mike Griffin. Crokes corner forward had another point on 12 minutes and then Eoin Walsh  fired one over for Na Gaeil after a great run from wing back.

Na Gaeil scored the next two points through Dan O Connor and the influential Shane Carey to leave Na Gaeil two points ahead after 17 minutes. Crokes no. 11 and Mike Griffin (free) exchanged points. Shane Carey had another point for Na Gaeil and this was cancelled out with another Crokes point from their no. 8.

Jack Barry had a long range effort for Na Gaeil. Crokes had the next two scores:  a point and then a well worked goal to leave the score Dr. Crokes 1-5 Na Gaeil 0-7 with 29 minutes of the first half gone. A minute later Crokes were dealt a severe blow when their influential no 8 was red carded.

Na Gaeil started the 2nd half brightly and scored the next 5 without reply with points coming from Mike Griffin, Dylan Seymour, Shane Carey, Dara Carmody and Eoin Walsh. 14 man Crokes were struggling.

They scored a point on 51minutes and were now trailing by 3. Jack Barry slotted over a 45 and there were further points from Shane Carey (0-2) Mike Griffin and Kieran Donovan. Crokes added two more points before the final whistle sounded to leave the full time score: Na Gaeil 0-17 Crokes 1-8

It was a good display all round by Na Gaeil with every player giving his all. All six backs played well as a unit and Timmy Culloty in goal didn’t put a foot wrong. Paul Daly adapted well to the sweeper role in the 2nd half and Eoin Walsh scored two points from wing back. Kieran Donovan was very effective on the other wing as was Dave Culloty in the centre. Jack Barry’s fetching was outstanding at midfield while Shane Carey, top scorer with 5 points continues to impress on the forty. Ian McCarthy also got through an amount of work. Na Gaeil now lead the Division 4 table along with Fossa.

Team: Timmy Culloty, Dara Sheehy, Dylan Brazil, Paul Daly, Kieran Donovan(0-1), Dave Culloty, Eoin Walsh(0-2), Jack Barry(0-2), Dan O Connor(0-1), Dylan Seymour(0-1), Shane Carey(0-5), Seamie O Neill,  Ian McCarthy, Jamie Lowham, Mike Griffin(0-4).

Subs; Dara Carmody(0-1) for Dylan Seymour; Eoin O Neill for Seamie O Neill; Eoin Doody for Eoin Walsh; Ger O Connor for Ian McCarthy; Jordan Murphy for Kieran Donovan; Paul Nolan for Jamie Lowham.

Junior Championship   As of now Na Gaeil play Cromane in the first round of the Junior Championship at home in Killeen on Saturday evening next April 16th at 6.45pm.  Come out and support the team.

Sympathy

We extend our sincere sympathy to the family of Terry Healy on the death of his father Terence, late of Connolly Park. Terry of Terry’s Butchers is one of our major sponsors

Minors

Our minors played Beaufort in the final round of the county league on Tuesday last and produced a stunning display of football over the hour to win 4-17 to 1-04. Stefan and Diarmuid were exceptional on the night leading the way from the front and we wish them the very best with their involvement on the county minor panel next Wednesday.

All players got game time and there were good performances from a lot of players on the night. Beaufort were missing several key players but this result means we have remained unbeaten in the county league and our reward is a home semi final next Friday at 6.45pm against Legion.

This will be our toughest assignment of the year but the lads have the football in them and must play to their best to get to the final. All support for the team would be appreciated next Friday night in Kileen. Thanks to our sponsors for the year: Meadowlands Hotel and Leahy’s Pharmacy.

Kerry Minors

Congratulations to Diarmuid O Connor who lines out at no. 12 on the Kerry Minor Team that takes on Waterford in the first round of the Munster Championship in Dungarvan on Wednesday evening next. Congratulations also to Stefan Okunbar who is on the extended panel. We wish them all the best.

U 14

Na Gaeil U14’s hosted Kenmare in round 2 of the County League last Wednesday in Killeen. The visitors played the first half with the aid of a strong breeze and took full advantage of the conditions .

Playing against the wind Na Gaeil struggled at times to break out of defence, however despite this they created good opportunities when they broke up the field and kept in contact with the visitors during the first half.

The Na Gaeil defence played well but Kenmare got a few late scores to leave the half time score Na Gaeil 1-3, Kenmare 2-6.

Despite trailing by six points at half time, Na Gaeil knew with the strong breeze in the second half that they were still in this game. They made an excellent start to the second half and four unanswered points reduced the deficit to two points.

However Kenmare struck back with a goal and a point to restore their half time lead. The teams swapped points before another score from Kenmare left seven points between the teams.

However Na Gaeil refused to give up and scored 1-3 to trail by a point entering the last ten minutes. Kenmare scored another point to extend their lead to two points but Na Gaeil struck back with two late scores to leave the final score Na Gaeil 2-13, Kenmare 3-10.

This was a very entertaining game which either side could have won. Na Gaeil never gave up despite being seven points down mid-way during the second half. This was a big step up from our first game and we can look forward to the remainder of the county league with confidence.

The next game in the county league is away to Glenbeigh/Cromane next Wednesday.

We also have a bag pack in Dunnes Horan Centre next Friday and Saturday. This is to help finance Feile so we are looking for all players to help.

Panel: T Reen, S Ryan, T Walsh, P Walsh, D Henriksson, O Maunsell, J O’Sullivan, E O’Connor, J Sheehan, G Sheehy, M Burke, J Fitzgerald, C Devine, S Daly, J Bourke, D Moriarty, J Roche, E Sheehy.

U 12   Our next County League outing is on Sunday evening 17th April at home to Knock-Brosna. Throw in 6 pm. We had fantastic support in Castleisland last week so it would be great to see that continue for the boys this season. It gives all the players a boost when they hear supporters cheering from the side-line!  Training continues Thursday 6.30 to 7.30pm.

U 10   Last Sunday’s training had to be cancelled due to the inclement weather. We’ll expect the boys back again next Sunday rearing to go! See you all at Na Gaeil pitch at 11am. Everyone is welcome.

U8 Training was cancelled on Sunday last due to the dreadful weather and ground conditions. Hope you enjoyed your day off. Any parents who are not receiving the Na Gaeil U8 group text please text your details to Terry on 0868293261 and we will make sure you are the system going forward.

If weather conditions are suitable it is planned that all U8 players will undergo a skills assessment facilitated by a professional coach next week. This will enable the coaching team to track progress of all players throughout the season.

To ensure players practice at home. “The Na Gaeil Club” will give a football to each U8 registered player. Each player will be responsible for taking their ball to all training sessions. Footballs will be handed out over the next few weeks so make sure you are registered!! Final call for club registration: Registration will continue at the Na Gaeil Clubhouse on the 17th of April from 11am onwards.

Individual membership – Fee €40 & Family – Fee €100 (All Players must be registered with the club to comply with all insurance and GAA regulations.) We have been lucky enough to be allocated two bag packing days in Dunnes at the Horan Centre on Fri and Sat next 15th and 16th April. We now need a rota of parents to fill hourly time slots on Friday 15th from 11am – 4pm.

Please text Tim Lynch on 0874184339 with your preferred hour. This is a very important fundraiser for Féile.  All monies collected are to help Na Gaeil to host Feile teams in June. “So get packing”. Poster competition: “We are Na Gaeil” Make sure you  send your entries in for next week: Great Prizes for the winners of each category.  See you all next Sunday 17th April at 11am at the Na Gaeil Pitch.

U 6   This group got the unexpected treat of training in the all weather pitch at the Sport’s Complex last Sunday week April 3rd. The skills of bouncing and catching the ball were practiced followed by the boys’ first attempt to pick up the ball with their foot.

Huge improvements are being made by all including Mark Nealon and Rhyanne O’ Sullivan. Training resumes next Sunday in Na Gaeil at 11am. All welcome!

Na Gaeil Ladies

Na Gaeil v Invear Scéine GaelsDivision 1, Round 3

We played on Sunday morning in fine sunny conditions. ISG got off to a good start scoring 1.02 without reply. Sarah Cunningham got us our 1st point before Eilis made a great run from midfield and scored a goal.

ISG picked off another few points along with a goal but we were dangerous on the counter with Sarah scoring a goal after a fine run. Caoimhe won us a penalty with Jadyn despatching it beyond the keeper for a goal. With another point apiece from Meagan and Jadyn and with Blaithnaid making a great diving save late in the 1st half, we went in 3 points down at half time. We started the 2nd half brightly with Erika having 2 shots on goals saved. With Kate Anne, Eimear and Susan marking tightly, they were leaving no room for the forwards to get  a sight of our goals.

Clodagh had a couple of chances but was marked tightly. Jadyn scored another goal and with Nora setting up scores for Sarah Quigley and Sarah C along with Meagan and Ayesha getting a couple of more points to leave us leading by 1 point with 10 minutes to go.

Nora and Sarah were working tirelessly along the half back line but ISG were able to bring on the fresh legs that we didnt have and made the difference for the last 5 minutes, they were able to pick off a few points from distance while our legs were tiring. This was another fine performance from a very young team which was missing a lot of senior players.

Losing by 3 points in the end didn’t deserve the effort that was put in by the players. Final Score 4.07 – 2.16

Team; Sarah Quigley, Susan Fernane, Kate Anne O Connor, Nora O Connell, Eilis O Connor,  Meagan Sheehy, Ayesha Roche, Jadyn Lucey, Sarah Cunningham, Erika O Sullivan, Caoimhe Hanafin, Clodagh McHugh, Blaithnaid O Connor,Eimear Nolan.
The Draw was made for the Senior County Championship where we were drawn away to Killarney District. Date and venue is to be confirmed.

Na Gaeil v Listowel Emmets , Ladies County League Div 2, 1st Round
We played away to Listowel on Thursday night. We had a few debutants for the U16 team with Sarah, Freya, Megan and Clodagh McHugh. Listowel started brightly scoring 2 early points.

Dearbhla won the ball from the resulting kickout and found Mary who passed it to Jadyn for our 1st point. Sibeal won the ball from the kickout and passed it into the forwards where Clodagh McHugh got her 1st goal for the club.

Mary and Clodagh O Connor started to command midfield. Laoise was unlucky not to score as were a few more but the work rate from our forwards was excellent and with Sibeal letting nothing past her through the centre, Caragh, Clodagh Mc and Kay running the lines, we made it tough for Listowel to get out of their own half . Jadyn got a goal with Mary scoring 3 points from midfield.

Kay won us a free around the 21 which Meagan took and hit the back of the net. We went in at half time with a healthy lead. Listowel came at us in the 2nd half but Brid was immense at full back and let no one past her.

Aimee and Megan won their battles and with Dearbhla, Ria, Sarah and Freya marking tight, winning ball and setting up our forwards, we were able to finish the game strongly and with more points from Sarah, Meagan, the 2 Clodaghs and a fine mazy run and goal from Mary, we finished strongly against a very resilient Listowel team. Well done Girls Final Score 4.14 – 0.08

Team; Freya O Connor, Aimee Kerins, Brid Sinnott, Laoise Delahunty, Dearbhla Quirke, Ria Walsh, Sarah Barrett, Mary O Connell, Clodagh O Connor, Meagan Sheehy, Sibeal Casey, Jadyn Lucey, Clodagh McHugh, Caragh O Neill, Kay Barry, Megan Fernane.

We’d like to wish Maria Quirke the best of Luck as she heads to Alaska for a few months.

Congratulations to Deirdre Kearney on receiving UCD Ladies GAA Player of the year 2016. Deirdre played a huge role in helping her team achieve O’Connor Cup success last month and her hard work was acknowledged in an Awards Ceremony in UCD last week. Well done Deirdre from all in Na Gaeil

Well done to Nora O Connell and Sarah Quigley who were with the Kerry Minor Team that beat Tipperary last Saturday. They now face Cork in the Munster Final

Ladies U14

Unfortunately, having rearranged our match against Castleisland a number of times it eventually got postponed until later in the month.  The bad weather is really impacting things and as a result of pitch closure training had to be cancelled on Sunday.

Hopefully things will improve now and the girls will get a good run at the season. Well done to Abi who captained Team Garvey’s U14 basketball team to the ‘B’ finals in Antrim at the weekend along with team members Mary, Sophie and Ciara.

The girls were just pipped at the end but did themselves proud.  Also, well done to Nora and Sarah who represented Na Gaeil on the Kerry minor team that defeated Tipperary last Saturday and now go on to face Cork in the Munster final.

Scór na bPáisti

All roads (many of them flooded!) led to Tinteán Theatre in Ballybunion last Sunday for the North Kerry Scór na bPáistí semi final. Na Gaeil was well represented with competitors in the Aithriseoireacht (recitation), Ceol Uirlise (music group), Sean Nós dancing and Léiriú Stáitse (stage presentation).

Eimer O Sullivan captivated the audience with a story entitled ‘An Fear Feasa’. Liam Óg Kingston rattled the floorboards of the Tinteán stage with his dancing and Tadgh Reen, Jack Doyle, Ailbhe Daly and Sarah Barrett gave everything they had in the Ceol Uirlise competition.

Unfortunately competition was stiff and only the Léiriú made it through to the County Final. Josh Roche, Jack Doyle, Grainne Quirke, Liam Og Kingston, Siun Clifford, Denis Moriarty, Eimer O Sullivan and Muire Kingston had the audience in stitches with their amusing ‘take’ on an Irish ‘wake’!!! Good luck to all of them in the County Final which takes place in Foilmore next Sunday the 17th April.
