Junior Championship Round 2   Na Gaeil will play Ballymac in round 2 of the Junior Championship at home in Killeen this Saturday evening April 23rd at 6.30pm. All support welcome.

Minors   We played the Division 2 County League semi-final in Na Gaeil on Friday last against Legion and won 2-17 to 2-04.

The highlight of the night must have been Dara Devine scoring 2-10 but in fairness all 21 players put in a shift against a tough Legion outfit (who were missing a few players). This means we now play Rathmore in the County Final.

We wish the lads the best of luck. They have shown great commitment and team play throughout this campaign and can hold their heads very high throughout the town of Tralee as the only unbeaten minor team in this competition.

The players also received their Meadowlands sponsored tops and pants which went down a treat after the win on Friday night. The teams other sponsor is Leahy’s Pharmacy. The club also deserve great credit for ensuring everything was available for the players on the night.

Panel: S Duggan, F Barry, J Slattery, R Kelly, R O Keeffe, D Bourke, R O Neill, R Murphy, D Goggins, T Lynch, S Okunbar, D O Connor, P Roche, J Roche, S Looney, M Moriarty, D Devine, D Burns, E Sheehy, S Duyile, T Kelliher, A Casey, N O Mahoney, J Carroll.
Minor County Final   Na Gaeil will play Rathmore in the Division 2 Minor County Final this Friday evening April 22nd at 6.45pm. The venue is yet to be decided. Come out and support the team on what is a great occasion for all the players.

U 14   We travelled to Glenbeigh for a round 3 county league clash last Wednesday and were down a goal and 2 points within 3 minutes of the start against a big Glenbeigh/Glencar/Cromane outfit. Gradually the entire team began to put good movements together and our defence got tighter and competed for more incoming ball and went in at half time 2-03 to 1-06 level.

Coming back from 5 down to draw level at half-time gave us confidence for the second half and we played some very good football to finally come out on top 2-12 to 3-04 winners. All 19 players contributed to this win and it would be unfair to single any one person out. Thanks also to the very good support that travelled with the team.

We will have a home game this Wednesday against Kilcummin at 7pm in round four of the county league. Training is on Thursdays and Sundays.

Panel: T Reen, S Ryan, T Walsh, P Walsh, D Moriarty, O Maunsell, J O’Sullivan, E O’Connor, J Sheehan, G Sheehy, M Burke, J Fitzgerald, C Devine, S Daly, J Bourke, J Roche, C O Neill, T Hanifin, L Kingston.
U 12   We hosted Knock/Brosna in Round 3 of the County League last Sunday. The visitors got off to a flying start with the aid of a stiff breeze in the first half but our boys got some vital scores before half time to peg it back to 4 points.

A blistering second half saw both sides give an exhibition of fine open football and we eventually drew level with 5 minutes remaining. The final whistle saw both teams share the points on a scoreline of 4.10 a piece.

Congratulations to Jack Dakissia who marked his first game with Na Gaeil with a fine performance. Our next outing is a trip back to Gallarus where we take on An Ghaeltacht next Sunday evening. Training continues Thursday at 6.30pm.

U 6   Another great training session was had by all on Sunday last. Huge improvements being made in kicking, soloing and bouncing the ball.

Plenty help was on hand to ensure everyone got their chance to show off their skills. Rhyanne O’ Sullivan and Joe Field were in top form.  Training resumes next Sunday at 11am!
Scór na bPáistí   Congrats to all our young thespians, members of the Léiriiú cast, who secured Gold medals at the Scór na bPáistí Co. Final held in Foilmore last Sunday. Joshua Roche, Muire Kingston, Grainne Quirke, Jack Doyle, Eimer O Sullivan, Siun Clifford, Liam Og Kingston and Denis Moriarty enthralled the audience with their hilarious interpretation of An Irish Wake!!

This victory was well deserved because these youngsters have put in many hours of rehearsal over the last 2 months. Scór na bPáistí finishes with the Co. Final but I have no doubt we’ll see these kids tread the boards again over the next few years.

Many thanks to all parents and friends who travelled to Foilmore to support us. Also thanks to Sean and everyone in Na Gaeil who had a great welcome for us when we arrived back to the club. A very special mention for Mary Quirke without whom any of this wouldn’t be possible……she writes these great scripts which keep winning medals!!!

There’s a treat in store for everyone at the end of May! Na Gaeil’s Got Talent is to be held in Scoil Mhic Easmainn on Saturday the 28th May. Keep an eye on these notes for more details.

Na Gaeil Ladies   Na Gaeil v Austin Stacks, County League U16 Div 2

We played away last Wednesday evening to Austin Stacks. We started brightly with goals from Meagan and Caragh. Stacks came back at us scoring 2.03 points but Mary and Clodagh were giving good ball into our forwards Kay, Abi, Sibeal, Erika and Clodagh. Clodagh McHugh got a nice point after good work by Sibeal.

Meagan and Caragh got another goal apiece but Stacks got back into the game and put fierce pressure on us for the last 10 mins of the 1st half which got them 4 quick goals. We were down by a good bit at half time.

We settled ourselves for the 2nd half.  Brid, Megan, Sarah and Freya stood strong in defence, Dearbhla, Ria,Ciara Gaynor and Erika started to take control of the half backs. Caragh and Meagan got another goal apiece from the pressure we were putting on them.

Laoise had a shot saved, Ciara Rath also had a shot saved as did Meagan and Clodagh McHugh. But in the end, we ran out of time and luck to lose by a couple of points. It was a goal feast on the night with Meagan scoring 3 and Caragh scoring 4 goals.

Team: Meagan Sheehy ,Clodagh McHugh, Erika O Sullivan, Ciara Gaynor, Clodagh O Connor, Mary O Connell, Caragh O Neill, Abi Casey, Dearbhla Quirke, Brid Sinnott, Sibeal Casey, Ria Walsh, Kay Barry, Sarah Barrett, Freya O Connor, Megan Fernane, Laoise Delahunty, Ciara Rath,

Na Gaeil v Southern Gaels, County League Div 1.
We travelled to South Kerry on Sunday morning to play Southern Gaels. We had a depleted squad as we had a lot away due to other commitments.

We were a very young team to come against a very experienced physically strong Gaels team which could boast a few Kerry Players.

Gaels started strongly playing with the breeze, scoring some long range points with Susan, Blaithnaid and Eimear trying to keep the back line tight. Aine and Sarah were working hard with Meagan and Eilis in midfield.

Gaels had an extra player as we were one short but we still gave it our all as Jadyn, Clodagh, Meabh and Erika were working tirelessly in the forwards. But Gaels spare player created havoc for us and it took us a while to try and combat this. We started the 2nd half better with Laura finding Jadyn and Meabh with her kickouts.

Eilis was breaking forward to score a couple of points. And with points from Jadyn, Meagan and Meabh, we got ourselves back into the game. We created a couple of goal scoring chances through Blaithnaid, Jadyn and Eilis but couldn’t take them. But in the end, Gaels had the better start and got their win.

Team; Laura Fitzgerald, Sarah Quigley, Susan Fernane, Eilis O Connor, Meabh Barry, Meagan Sheehy, Aine Kelliher, Jadyn Lucey, Erika O Sullivan, Clodagh McHugh, Blaithnaid O Connor, Eimear Nolan.
