U 14   Na Gaeil and Ballymac met in the County League Division 2 semi final last Tuesday evening in Killeen. Na Gaeil made an excellent start and dominated the opening ten minutes of the half. They made full use of their domination scoring two goals and three points without reply to open a nine point lead. However Ballymac refused to give up and soon got into their stride. They began to dominate possession and Na Gaeil lost their shape for the next ten minutes. However the Na Gaeil defenders stuck to their job and restricted Ballymac to a goal and a point during this period and Na Gaeil slowly began to win back control of the game. The home side finished the first half stronger scoring another goal and a point to leave the half time score, Na Gaeil 3-5 , Ballymac 1-1.

Ballymac were quick out of the blocks in the second half and opened the scoring with a well taken goal. Na Gaeil soon replied with a point and the teams swapped the next four scores to leave eight points between the teams. Na Gaeil got the next score to extend their lead. However Ballymac still weren’t beaten and scored their third goal to reduce the deficit to six points. They created more chances in the next few minutes but the Na Gaeil defence stood firm and kept Ballymac scoreless for the last period of the game. The Na Gaeil forwards responded to the good work of their colleagues in the back line and finished strongly scoring another goal and two points to leave the final score Na Gaeil 4-12, Ballymac 3-3.

This was an excellent performance in terrible conditions and great credit must go to both teams for the quality of football produced on the night. The result means Na Gaeil have qualified for the County League Final, which will be against Kenmare on Monday in Fossa at 7.00pm. This group of players have worked extremely hard since last January and deserve their place in the final. We drew with Kenmare earlier in the league in a very exciting game in Killeen and expect the final to be another tight affair.
