At half time Na Gaeil went into the break 02-05 to Glenflesk 00-05. The second half however saw Glenflesk fight back from the throw in, with the home side struggling to cope with the visitors’ dominance in mid field.

WINNERS: Na Gaeil and Kenmare met in the County league division two final in perfect conditions last Monday evening in Fossa. The teams had already met each other in round two of the league in an exciting match in Killeen, which finished in a draw. Na Gaeil knew that they would have to play to their full potential if they were to win this game and were focused from the throw in.

They opened the scoring with a point in the opening seconds of the game and followed this up with another three points in the opening next few minutes. They extended the lead on the 5th minute with a goal and another two points immediately afterwards meant that Na Gaeil were nine points ahead. Kenmare got their first score after ten minutes but Na Gaeil immediately replied with their second goal of the match.

They followed this up with two more unanswered points before Kenmare struck for a goal and a point to leave nine points between the teams after fifteen minutes. Na Gaeil kept playing at high intensity and extended their lead with another goal and a point before Kenmare replied with two points. The Tralee youngsters weren’t in the mood to allow a Kenmare comeback and immediately responded with two unanswered scores before Kenmare go the final score of the half to leave the half time score Na Gaeil 3-11, Kenmare 1.5.

At half time Na Gaeil knew that this game was not over and that they would need to maintain the intensity they showed in the opening half, as they knew Kenmare would not give up.

Na Gaeil opened the scoring in the second half with a point, but Kenmare immediately replied with their first point of the second period. Na Gaeil got the next two points before Kenmare got their second goal of the match to give them hope. However, Na Gaeil immediately struck back with their fourth goal of the evening and another point to extend the lead.

Credit to Kenmare who refused to give up and were rewarded minutes later with their third goal. However, Na Gaeil remained focused and as they did all evening after a Kenmare score immediately struck back with scores of their own. In the next five minutes, Na Gaeil scored a goal and five points to end any hope of a Kenmare comeback. Kenmare replied with two further points before Na Gaeil got the final score of the game to leave the final score Na Gaeil 5-21, Kenmare 3-9.

This was a great performance by Na Gaeil who played excellent football over the entire sixty minutes. It was great that the entire panel got game time in the final and all contributed to the victory.

This group of players have worked extremely hard since last January and deserve their County league medals. They have plenty more football to look forward to this year with a St Brendan’s league final to be played as well as Feile at the end of June and the Central League over the summer. Some of the younger players can enjoy a few weeks’ rest while others will experience County Championship football with St Brendan’s.

We must mention the support we had last Monday and at all our games this year. It is great to see so many Na Gaeil parents and members at all our under age games. Panel: S Daly, S Ryan, T Walsh, P Walsh, T O’h Ainifein, O Maunsell, J O’Sullivan, E O’Connor, J Sheehan, C Devine, J Bourke, J Fitzgerald, M Burke, T Reen, D Burns, G Sheehy, L Kingston, D Moriarty, J Roche, D Hennriksson,, E Sheehy, C O’Neill.

Hope everyone can attend Na Gaeil’s Got Talent on Saturday May 28th in Scoil Mhic Easmainn at 6.30pm. There is a great night’s entertainment promised and the proceeds are going to help finance Feile. The Under 14 team well represented on the night, with Joshua, Jimmy, Tom, Denis and Liam Og all taking part in the show.

UNDER 10:

We took part in the Town Board’s under 10 Go-Games blitz last Thursday in Connolly Park. We had a very good turn out of players so we were able to field 2 teams. Both teams played some excellent football in their games and really enjoyed the event.

Well done to everyone and thank you to Austin Stacks who hosted the blitz. Last Sunday we trained as usual in Killeen. See you all again next Sunday at 11am. In the meantime, don’t forget to keep practicing your skills at home.

UNDER 8:    Training continued at the Sunday last at 11 am. It was a beautiful morning and we had an excellent turnout. We practiced the basic skills and finished with very competitive practice games. There were great performances from Adam Lunn, Shane O’Donovan, Fionn O’Dalaigh and Ruadh Sheehey. Most improved players: Donnacadh Hartnett.  Matthew Guerin, Johnny Neillings.

Next week all registered U8 players will receive a club football to use for practice at home. They must bring their ball to all training sessions. This pilot scheme only applies to the U8 squad members, so make sure you’re registered! All Players are asked to bring their water bottle & mouth-guards to every session.

UNDER 6:   Sun, sweat and cheers were the name of the game last Sunday for these youngsters. Passing and kicking the ball were the key skills practiced and the matches at the end brought their usual excitement. Well done all!

Another great training session was had by these youngsters last Sunday, particularly Harry Eggleston and Ava Dewey. Even Minor goalie Jack Duggan couldn’t keep up with the pace and the power of the kicking! The presence of plenty of coaches ensured all players got good quality contact with the ball. Well done all!

Na Gaeil v Cromane, Ladies Div 2 County League. We played away to Cromane on Friday evening after some heavy rain during the day. The pitch was soft and the players found it tough going on the legs, We started brightly with a couple of early points from Meagan and Clodagh Mc Hugh. Cromane came at us again with a physical approach that Brid, Megan and Ria stood up to.

Then with well taken goals from Erika and Jadyn, we were taking control of the game, Dearbhla, Sarah and Mary were staying tight with their players. Jadyn and Clodagh were working hard in midfield to support Kay, Erika and Meagan. Clodagh, Laoise and Caragh were being marked tightly but still managed to find space with Laoise hitting the crossbar twice.

We were on top for most of the game but we got a couple of injuries and as we had no subs, we had to limp along which enabled Cromane to finish the stronger and beat us by a couple of points. A result that was not deserved.

There is now a break till after the Junior Cert and best of luck to all doing the Junior Cert. Team ; Caragh O Neill, Megan Fernane, Brid Sinnott, Ria Walsh, Erika O Sullivan, Dearbhla Quirke, Mary O Connell, Sarah Barrett, Jadyn Lucey, Clodagh O Connor, Meagan Sheehy, Kay Barry, Laoise Delahunty, Clodagh McHugh

LADIES:UNDER 14 – The girls are currently top of div. 2 in the county league with three wins out of four, following a great performance against our neighbours Austin Stacks.

Na Gaeil Feile girls

Na Gaeil Under 14 team.

This was possibly the best team performance that the girls have shown all year and it would be impossible to pick out one girl over another.  The more experienced players took on the roles of leaders while the newer players stepped up to the mark and the experience will really bring them on.

The final score was 6-13 to 3-05 – we have a break in matches for a couple of weeks now as Kerry U14’s take on Tipperary in the Munster final.  Good luck to Mary and Abi who are representing the club proudly on the county team.
