25th Anniversary Celebrations

A great night was had by all who attended the 25th anniversary celebrations of the opening of the clubhouse in Na Gaeil on Saturday night last.

People started gathering shortly after 9pm and in no time at all the place was packed to the rafters. Many past players, mentors, club members and officers attended and old friendships were renewed, with all of them taking a trip down memory way and recounting stories from the past.

Current chairperson Tim Lynch welcomed everybody on the night and paid tribute to all the people involved in the club since its formation back in 1979, saying that their hard work and dedication has made Na Gaeil the great club that it is the day.

He also paid tribute to all the bar managers and staff past and present for helping to run a very successful clubhouse for the last 25 years and for the lovely atmosphere they have helped to create in it.

The first chairperson of the club, Denis Reen spoke passionately about the formation of the club in ‘79 and praised the people who had the vision to see that a new club was needed for the youth of the greater Oakpark area and had the courage to bring their vision to fruition. Special guest on the night was MEP Seán Kelly as was fitting as Seán opened the clubhouse 25 years ago this month.

He cut the cake and officially got the celebrations under way. Seán complimented everybody associated with the club down through the years saying that it is very difficult to form a new club and make it a success.

He said that he is very impressed with the progress of the club since its inception and looks forward to seeing Na Gaeil go all the way in the Junior Championship in the near future and hopefully play in Croke Park like many other Kerry clubs have done.

He praised the club for treating men and women equally and congratulated the ladies on their All Ireland win of a few years ago. It was indeed a great night of celebration, a lovely atmosphere prevailed and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.

Thanks to everybody who helped on the night. The bar staff, the people who prepared the food and to our musician who played lovely tunes all night.

Na Gaeil Ladies : Na Gaeil Ladies v John Mitchels in the Mary Jo Curran Cup.

We played John Mitchels at home on Monday night. We started brightly with a point from Kate Anne followed by 2 points each from Jadyn and Sibeal. Mitchels tried coming back at us but Susan, Eimear and Aimee stood up to their challenge and kept their scoring low.

Laura had safe hands in goals and was setting up our attacks with her quick kick outs. Erika and Jadyn scored a goal apiece before half time to give us a commanding lead.

Mitchels regrouped and came at us hard at the start of the 2nd half scoring an early 1.02. Ria and Clodagh came into the backs with Sarah, Martina and Sheila to tighten up. After which we didnt concede any more scores. Nora won the ball, drove forward and put it over the bar. Mags was getting involved and found Erika who scored a point. Jadyn scored a point from a free that Katie won. Blaithnaid found Meagan with a great pass to score a goal.

Caoimhe found Sibeal and Meagan with good passes for each of them to score a point apiece. Despite losing Kate Anne through injury towards the end of the game, we managed to come out well on top. This young and inexperienced team have performed very well this year despite missing a lot of our senior players and deserved this victory through the hard work and good team play.
